Pupils who attend Problem Solving Club recently took part in the UK Maths Trust Intermediate Maths Challenge, a national competition testing problem solving skills. We are very impressed with these results, especially from our S1/2 pupils as this competition level is aimed at S3-4. All worked very hard, taking away past papers to practise in their own time, and showed a lot of resilience with this year’s fairly tough set of questions.
Starred pupils, plus Nicole E (not pictured) earned a Gold Certificate and such a high score that they receive an invite to the next round of this competition – an accolade enjoyed by only a small percentage of entrants. We wish them all the best as they prepare for this next round.
Well done to Archie (S3) who picked up a trophy for his trombone playing, as did Oscar (S3) for cornet. They have both played with Dalmellington Brass Academy for some time and this weekend competed in the 81st Dalmellington Brass Band Slow Melody competition.
Oscar took second place in the Advanced Junior Section, with Archie just one point behind in 3rd place. Archie was also awarded the Carr trophy for dedication and commitment, selected by the junior band’s conductor.
Well done to Tristan (S5) who was competing in the All England Open for ballroom dancing at the weekend.
His results were:
4th rising star solo ballroom
4th under 21 solo ballroom
8th adult solo ballroom
He was competing against people from all over Britain and some from Italy. His performance was recorded and will contribute towards his Higher PE. Well done, Tristan!
