Eco Schools

The sustainable development goal we are focused on is Climate Action along with the three topics, Litter, Energy and school grounds.

In order to meet this goal and our aims for the energy topic we have promoted World Earth Hour at Assemblies. Nearly 50 students and staff signed up to this initiative. We have interviewed students who participated in this and their quotes were displayed on the school eco-board.

For the Litter topic, we met with a local Independent East Ayrshire councillor Sally Cogley from the Rubbish Party. We discussed the prospect of the school being involved in a new initiative to reduce litter in the school and wider community. We hope to roll out this new programme in conjunction with the community wardens in September.

We organised a litter pick in the local community.

School ground improvements have taken place. Miss Borland’s personal development class have taken responsibility for improving the grounds. Funding has been achieved and as a consequence gardening tools have been purchased. Hedges, fruit trees and bulbs have been planted. Raised beds, compost and bark are ready to be used for the next phase of the grounds. Outdoor greenhouses are also ready to be developed. Additional members of staff are willing to support this imitative going forward.
