Welcome to the new Kilmarnock Academy school blog.
The new Kilmarnock Academy will be formed through the merging of Kilmarnock Academy and James Hamilton Academy within the William McIlvanney Campus in the New Farm Loch area of Kilmarnock.
The Campus itself will host Kilmarnock Academy, the new James Hamilton Primary and Early Childhood Centre, and Sgoil na Coille Nuaidhe, the new 3-18 Gaelic provision.
We are all eagerly anticipating the opening of the new £45 million Campus in April 2018.
I am honoured to have been appointed Head Teacher of Kilmarnock Academy. Looking ahead, it is important to fully utilise this significant investment in the futures of the young people and communities of Kilmarnock.
It is also an inspirational journey for staff, transforming teaching and learning in a new, modern environment with state-of-the-art facilities enhancing every curricular area including languages, STEM subjects, sport, art and culture.
In developing a new dynamic curriculum, we will see increased opportunities to work with local communities and key partners, including businesses and the new Ayrshire College. This will widen choices and develop pathways for our young people to follow an academic or vocational route which is best suited to their needs and ambitions. It is an exciting time for all pupils associated with the new school.
This blog will provide pupils, staff, parents, carers and the community, with up-to-date information about Kilmarnock Academy as we prepare for the school opening and beyond.
I look forward to working with you in the years ahead as we build an excellent education provision together.
