Scotland Theme – Edinburgh

Successful Learners 

As part of our Scotland activities, the Sunflower’s have been learning a lot of new Scottish words.  Each child has engaged in story related activities by matching the correct words to the pictures.  We then collected thistles with the letters of our names on them and practiced putting them in order. Everyone loved making Scotland flag sensory bags too!

Theme Edinburgh – Trip to the Zoo!

Successful Learners and Confident Individuals 

On Monday, the Sunflower’s enjoyed a story all about Edinburgh Zoo!  Each child explored the animals via our live cam of Edinburgh zoo and everyone loved rice and water play with the animals.  The children enjoyed matching the animals with their names and some pupils  used an AAC device to hear the sound of each animal at story time. We then practiced overwriting, underwriting and following patterns to complete our zoo animal worksheets.

Happy Burn’s Day!

Effective Contributors 

The Sunflower’s had a brilliant Burn’s day and enjoyed celebrating with a variety of group activities.  Each child enjoyed colouring their own burns themed pictures, completing a tartan paper weaving task and a class game of Scottish bingo.  We loved listening to Scottish ceilidh music throughout the day and joined in with our instruments too.

Edinburgh Theme LIT 0-21b – Threading

Successful Learners 

During literacy time, the Sunflower’s enjoyed threading the outline of many Edinburgh landmarks.  Each child was able to weave the string around their picture to give it a complete outline. Some children were able to identify Edinburgh castle in their picture.

EXA 0-02a – Greyfriar’s Bobby Dog

Successful Learners 

As part of our Scotland theme for the term, the Sunflower’s have been learning about Edinburgh.  Last week, we had an interactive story about the Greyfriars Bobby dog and his adventures.  Afterwards, we used a variety of fabrics to decorate our own Bobby dog.  The children loved exploring different textures and adding the material to their collage.

50 Things Outdoors – Bubbles

Effective Contributors 

In the garden, the Sunflower’s enjoyed blowing and popping bubbles.  Each child experienced reaching, catching and popping bubbles and some children were able to blow them independently.   Well done Sunflower’s!

50 Things Outdoors – Making a Mud Pie

Successful Learners and Effective Contributors 

At the beginning of term 2, the Sunflower’s enjoyed making mud pie’s in the garden.  Each child felt the sensation of mud on their hands and poured, moulded and handled mud to make a mud pie. We also added some water. Some children preferred using kitchen utensils to make their mud pie. Everyone enjoyed getting muddy in the sunshine.

Eco/Sustainable Global Goal 3 – Rainbow Wraps (Good Health and Wellbeing)

Successful Learners and Responsible Citizens

As part of our health and wellbeing global goal task, the Sunflower’s loved making their own rainbow wraps at cookery time.  All pupils were able to choose the fruit and vegetables they would like and roll them into their wrap.  Most pupils were able to touch, chop and prepare the foods and some pupils were able to name and taste the ingredients too.   Each child also enjoyed food related games. Well Done Sunflowers!

IDL Theme Tartan Painting – Edinburgh

Confident Individuals and Effective Contributors 

The Sunflower class enjoyed making some Scottish artwork as they decorated kilts.  Each child was given a variety of paint colours and practiced painting along the lines of the kilt pattern to make a tartan effect. We then added a sporran and legs to finish.

IDL Theme – Scotland Flags

Successful Learners 

As part of our Scottish theme this term, the children enjoyed drawing and colouring Scotland flags in the garden.  Each child was able to recognize a Scotland flag and draw it on the ground using blue and white chalk. They then enjoyed colouring them.
