Dinosaur Eggs

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Daisies class enjoyed exploring a range of dinosaur eggs. We put some bath bomb dinosaur eggs in water and enjoyed watching them fizz!

We also submerged a dinosaur egg in water and observed it over 48 hours. We were so excited to see the dinosaur egg begin to hatch! We now have a pet dinosaur that we are going to look after.

The Good Dinosaur!

The Daisies class have loved watching our ‘step back in time’ theme film called The Good Dinosaur. We have watched short clips over the last few days and have been through a rollercoaster of emotions.

Today, we used our knowledge to match characters from the film, identified our favourite character and explored dinosaur eggs. We had to crack them open, remove the slime and save the baby dinosaurs.

Thistle Street – Greyfriar’s Bobby Story

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS *

The Daisies class enjoyed reading “Greyfriars Bobby’s New Adventure” story. They were very interested to learn more about Bobby and enjoyed looking at pictures of his memorial statue in Edinburgh. We found out that people believe if you rub Bobby’s nose that it brings you good luck. We took turns rubbing Bobby’s nose for luck and made a tartan Greyfriars Bobby craft.

Thistle Street – Edinburgh Zoo

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS *

The Daisies class enjoyed watching a virtual tour of Edinburgh Zoo. We named all of the animals we could see and discussed some characteristics – what the elephants use their trunks for, what penguins like to eat etc.

We matched animals to their animal skins and sorted them into their correct habitats.

Thistle Street – Edinburgh Focus – Military Tattoo Drummers!

The Daisies class enjoyed watching clips of the Military Tattoo drummers. We had turns at playing the drums. We absolutely loved this!

Thistle Street – Scottish Food Tasting

The Daisies class enjoyed a mini Burns Supper in class today. We watched the Transition class’ virtual clips of their Burns Supper and braved trying some Scottish foods. We had irn bru, haggis, needs and tatties, porridge, shortbread and tablet.

Thistle Street -Social Studies – Exploring Different Styles of Houses

The Daisies class enjoyed going on a local area walk and looking at different styles of houses. We spotted flats, bungalows and large detached houses. We also spotted a Scottish flag that we recognised from our theme.

Thistle Street – Edinburgh Castles

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS *

The Daisies class enjoyed looking at clips of Edinburgh Castle on Google Maps. We also watched a YouTube clip of a Minecraft themed animation of Edinburgh Castle getting built.

We used a rectangle foam stamper to print brick effects on our castle template and added windows, towers and a castle door.

We looked closely at the Scottish flag and collages our own to go on top of our castle.

Thistle Street Roleplay – Exploring the Shops

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

The Daisies class enjoyed role playing the shop keeper role. In Thistle Street, there are some shops like bakers, greengrocers and DIY shops. We took turns using the basket and shopping for some items and also had turns being the shopkeeper and using the interactive till.

Thistle Street – Exploring the Thistle

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS *

The Daisies class enjoyed exploring the thistle. We looked at the colours -green and purple and explored them through a sensory tray. We also painted paper plates green and drew round our hands on purple card to make effective thistle crafts.
