We have had a ball this week raising awareness for Children in Need. We have played games, took part in themed activities and had a mini-party in class. We were effective contributors as we all took part in a variety of events.
We really enjoyed learning about Diwali this year, we read the story of Rama and Sita and made our own diva lamps from paper plates and mandala patterns using home made sensory playdough!
To mark Remembrance Day this year, the Beech class created poppy wreaths and made a soldier silhouette as part of a display. We were very responsible as each and every pupil took part in a two minute silence and showed great understanding and respect. Well done, Beech.
Our Personal Care session this week was all about our different body parts. We played some games and took part in an interactive quiz just to make sure we could all identify our different boy parts! Here are some pictures of our favourite game:
As part of a Communication SQA we are completing in class, the Beech boys and girls read a book based on the gunpowder plot and completed a range of fun activities based on the ideas surrounding the story, We were very successful learners as we all took part in the activities and enjoyed learning about the history of Guy Fawkes Night.
The beech class started a new SQA today that will focus on our personal hygiene. Throughout the course of the year we will look at all the different ways we look after our bodies and keep ourselves healthy as we grow and mature.
Today, we had an introductory lesson where we looked at all of the different parts of our body that we need to keep clean and all of the different products we might use. We explored lots of products via our senses, then did a smell test to see if we could identify the product after smelling it.
We were very responsible citizens as we talked about our bodies and our routines at home.
We did a germ experiment to find out the best way of getting rid of germs on our hands given a choice of hot water, soap or sanitizer. We decided that it would be best to use all three as none of them managed to make the germs completely disappear.
We have been effective contributors this week as we have taken part in lots of different Hallowe’en activities! We have made spooky snacks, painted some pumpkins, played games, had themed lessons and took part in some scary science experiments. Here are our favourite photos from this week.
Here are our pumpkins! Katelyn made a fox, Sean made a mummy, Toni made an emoji, Gemma made a unicorn and Milly made a doughnut!
We made a witch from marshmallows, a witches finger from breadsticks and a biscuit mummy!
Well done to Toni for winning ‘best costume’! She made a brilliant Willy Wonka!
The Beech class have been getting into the Hallowe’en spirit this week in the Beech class! Our hard work has been mostly Hallowe’en themed and on Thursday we had a day of messy sensory activities. In the morning we enjoyed making individual Hallowe’en snacks and in the afternoon we took part in some Hallowe’en experiments! We made ghosts shoot through the air, glow-in-the-dark water, and erupting ghosts! We were successful learners as we listened carefully to our instructions and took part in each activity.
In the Beech class this week we have been reading a story called ‘The Magicians Hat’ by Malcolm Mitchell. We have had loads of fun doing our own magic spells and making potions in science but our favourite activity was making our own snacks in class that matched out theme. We made a witches hat, a broomstick and a fruit wand! We were successfullearners throughout the activity by listening carefully to all of the instructions.
We have started our very own mini-cafe in the Beech class where we are developing our communication skills and money handling skills. We take turns each week to work at the cafe till while the rest of us choose from a snack from a menu. We are all being responsible citizens when we think carefully about how we are communicating with each other.
