Getting ready for Christmas

We’ve been working hard getting the classroom ready for Christmas over the last few days. We have put up our tree and decorated it, made our own stockings to hang up, listened to lots of Christmas music and even put the nativity story in the right order. Its been lot of fun!

Walk Together Week- FAOL

Last week Comet class decided to see how far we could walk in one week. Everyday we went for a walk around the school and counted how many steps we took. Some of us even kept track of how many metres we had walked. At the end of the week we added up all our steps to see how many we had walked. We all had lots of fun doing so much walking!

Schools around the world FAOL

Comet class have been looking at how different schools are around the world. We looked closely at America, China, Kenya and Japan. We watched videos about each school, spoke about it as a class and then ended with a quiz! Some of us wanted to stay in Scotland but lots of us wanted to travel the world!

Lava Lamps-FAOL

We did an awesome science experiment in comet class using water, vegetable oil and food colouring. When put together these ingredients can make a lava lamp! We all enjoyed finding out that the oil is thicker (more dense) than the water, and that is why the oil and water don’t mix together

Bark Rubbing- FAOL

Comet class have been wrapping up to face the cold and to do  some outdoors learning. We investigated how trees feel to touch and why they have bark. We enjoyed looking for the roughest tree to touch and finding loose bits of bark to use to create some artwork. We took this bark back to class to do some lovely bark rubbing.

Comet Class and the Giant Peach FAOL

Comet class has been working hard over the last few weeks making our own giant peach just like the one in our story ‘James and the Giant Peach’. And just like Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker we decided to sell tickets to show off our peach. Finally the day arrived last Friday!  Lots of classes came  along  to see our giant peach, and they all got a lovely fruit pot that we had prepared as well. It was a fantastic day with everyone in Comet class doing a fantastic job!

A Comet Class Catch Up

Apologies for the lack of a comet class blogs this term, the technology had been failing us! Now that everything is working I would like to catch you up on what Comet class has been busy doing so far this year.

James and the Giant Peach

Our class theme for the first term was James and the Giant Peach. The class loved hearing about James and all his insect friends as they travelled across the world. Matching the characters, making a giant peach, creating our own ‘green things recipe, researching New York and acting out our story were just a few of the activities we have done.

Science

We have been doing lots of fun (and messy) science experiments this term. We have blown up balloons with carbon dioxide, made clouds in a bottle, dropped eggs without them smashing (sometimes) and made wind dials. These experiments have been lots of fun and we will keep doing them all year.

Cookery

Comet class has been very busy in the cookery room this year, making a variety of different food and drinks. This term we have made rice crispy cakes, burgers, fruit salads, milkshakes and scrambled eggs.

I hope this has caught you up on some of the activities we have been doing in Comet Class. Check back for weekly blogs!
