Comets-26/05/20

Hi Comets

I hope everyone is doing good and still having lots of fun at home! Ive got some more activities for you to try this week.

Time to Relax- Yoga

We always enjoyed doing yoga in class to relax and the end of a busy day, and now Mr Wright has started trying it at home as well! Below is a link to the Cosmic Yoga Youtube channel where you can find loads of great  videos for you to try.  If thats not how you want to relax you could put a blanket down in your garden if you can and look at the clouds- what can you see?

The Memory Tray

You can test your memory with this awesome game.  All you need to a tray or large plate, a tea towel and and collection of items you have around the house. Put them all on the tray and try to remember as many as you can. Then someone else will cover them up with a towel and take one away. Now can you spot what has gone missing? You can make this game as hard or easy as you like 🙂

Here are some other children playing the game

Bug Hunt!

As spring turns into summer there are even more bugs and insects out and about. They can be hard to find but they are there if you look closely. You might need to look under rocks , around plants or in the mud. Can you find any from the list below? Remember to be careful and not hurt the insects. We just want to look.

How many did you find out of each? You can even make a bar chart just like mine to show what you found

Have an awesome week 🙂

Comet Class 19/05/20

Oh no! Where has the sun gone? It looks like we might have to spend some time inside. Luckily I have just the activities for when it rains.

Build a Fort

What better way to stay safe and cosy from the rain than to hide inside a fort! All you need is blankets, cushions and pillows! You can even use these simple designs shared by ikea to help. I would love to see some photos of any forts you build. This is my Favourite

Shape Hunt

I know how good everyone in comet class is with their shapes! We had been doing lots of practice before school stopped! I bet you can still do amazing work with your shapes. Go around your home and see how many of the shapes you recognise.

Comets- May 11th

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Here are some more activities you can try this week

Garden Writing

Collect as many sticks, rocks and leaves as you can! Now practice making your letters, or writing words with them! Can you spell your name and take a picture of it?

Once you’ve done all your writing can you use your materials to  make a picture?

Bottle music

Set up a row of bottles with varying amounts of liquid and then blow across the openings to hear the different tones. How many different noises can you make?

Go on a Safari

There are loads of amazing animals in our Jungle Book story, but they all live so far away! Luckily these zoos will let you watch their animals on your computer. Have a look at all the different animals, can you find any from our story?

Comets- Weekly Challenge

This week I would love for us all to spend some time in the garden (As long as its sunny!). There are lots of activities you can try.

1.Homemade Watering Can

Use an old plastic bottle (Large milk ones are the best) and poke some holes in the lid. Now you can use the bottle to water the plants in your garden or any you see when out for a walk. Taking care of plants and flowers will make you feel good 🙂 Did you find a favourite flower?

2. Bird Feeder

Whilst you are out in the garden you could also look after the birds that visit. You can make this awesome bird feeder using an old bottle and some bottle caps.  You can find the full instructions here  https://www.redtedart.com/juice-carton-crafts-owl-bird-feeder/

Owl bird feeder

3. Part of the Pack (Jungle Book)

Mowgili from our Jungle Book story is left as a baby with a a pack of wolves! He soon becomes part of the wolf pack and joins in with everything they do. Can you pretend to be a wolf? How do they move and sound?

You could make a den to sleep in like wolves do, and try howling at the moon!

Hope you all have a good week 🙂

Hi, hope everyone is doing well! Here are a few fun activities you can try this week if you wish

  1. Big Bird Watch- Before we stopped we had been taking part in the  Great British  bird watch. Have a look out your window, in your garden or when you are out for a walk. How many birds can you see? What colour are the birds? Are they big or small?

You could even feed the birds to help spot them!

  1. Jungle Book- Our theme this term was the jungle book, and we were all enjoying listening to all the songs! Can you have some fun singing and dancing along  to all the Jungle book songs. What was your favourite? I really like the ‘Bare Necessities’

Stay safe and have a lovely week!

Science Day-Confident Individuals

We have had an amazing day at Science Day, there were so many experiments for us to try! First we got to the planetarium to look at the stars, then we learnt how slinkies work, played with robots, made electrical circuit and ended the day firing rockets. Everyone was really focused and engaged during all the experiments. I think Comet class is full of future scientists!

Successful Learners- World Book Day

We have had a fantastic World Book Day in Comet class.  Everyone dressed up as one of their favourite characters and shared one of their favourite books. We also all wrote our own silly stories! Unfortunately  we are having a slight issue uploading our photos onto the blog right now so we cant show you all the amazing things we have done this week. We hope to have this fixed asap so you can see everything we are doing!

Dancing Noodles-FAOL

Comet Class have been looking at chemical reactions, and making noodles dance! This experiment involved us measuring out water and vinegar, then adding our noodles and bicarbonate soda. Some of us even through in food colouring! We were amazing to see our noodles dance about and then explode when we added lots of bicarbonate soda. What a mess!

Fair Trade and Picnics

Its Fair Trade Fortnight and we have been learning all about why buying Fairtrade is important. It makes sure that the farmers who grow the ingredients that we need get paid a fair amount. We know an item is fair trade when it had the Fairtrade logo on it!

We also practiced our writing this week by writing a story about going on a picnic. We got to choose what food and drink we would take, who we would go with and what games we would play.  Lets hope the nicer weather comes back soon so we can have our picnic for real!

Big British Bird Watch- FAOL

Over the last few weeks Comet class have been taking part in the Big British Bird watch. We have learnt all about the different types of birds we can find in our area, and had fun looking for them. At the end we made a graph to show how many birds we saw. The most common birds were seagulls and sparrows.
