Help wanted!

As part of Health and Wellbeing, our class will soon be looking at the world of work and discussing some of the occupations we might like to do when we are older.

It would be lovely if the children could hear from you about this. If anyone is willing could you record a short video or voice clip of yourself talking about your job? Between 2 and 5 minutes would be ideal covering:

  • what you do for a living
  • how long you have done this for
  • how did you learn how to do your job (eg university, college, gained experience through work)
  • what do you like about it
  • why would you recommend it to someone else as a job

If you would like to take part in this, could you please send any videos or voice clips to eamhairi.macnee@glow.sch.uk. If anyone is wanting to take part but having technical issues, let me know and I will find an alternative way of doing it.

Thank you in advance. The children will have great fun watching you on our big board.

Homework wb 1st November

Good afternoon everyone. It is almost hard to believe it is November already. Our class had a wonderful time celebrating Halloween on Friday with lots of games and activities to take part in. The children looked fantastic in their costumes!

Thank you to everyone who returned their posters to school last week. A number of the school’s efforts have been displayed in Morrison’s supermarket.

Reading homework

In change to our prior routine, reading books will be issued on a Monday. I hope this will work well for your schedules. Our reading homework for this week is:

Book Bandits – Oceans

Page Pirates – Butterflies

Word Wizards – The Fox Twins

Sound stars – please check your child’s bag for homework

If anyone has issues accessing bug club at home please let me know and I will send home paper copies of books where I can and provide your child the opportunity to complete the bugs within the books in class.

Spelling homework

This week our class is learning the sounds ow (as in snow). Below you will find a new grid from which your child can choose activities to practice this sound. I will provide the same spelling grid for the whole of this month along with the spelling words and common words for them to practice this week. Many of these activities can be done using the magnetic boards the children were given last year. If you would to provide your child with further challenge, ask them to make other words they can think of using the ow sound.

november spelling grid

Last week, I gave some children home flashcards with phonemes we have previously learned and words that they may be having difficulty with reading or spelling. It would be beneficial to the children who have these to practise these with a grown up as often as they can.

Numeracy homework

This week, East Ayrshire schools are taking part in a Sumdog challenge. The class have their log in details in the front of their diaries. There are prizes available for winning classes. I will mention it to the children at school.

In class we are working on addition to 20. We are spending some time this week looking at the different ways we can make the 11, 12, 13 and 14 using two numbers. To support your child to develop this skill, you may wish to ask them to bring you a number of objects (small toys work well for this) and then ask them to show you different ways they can split them into two groups while maintaining the same total number (e.g. if they have a group of 10 and a group of 1 they would have 11, similarly if they have a group of 2 and a group of 9 they would still have 11). I hope that makes sense!

The children can get some more practise using top marks on the link below.

Thank you for your continued support of our class. We have achieved some great learning so far and have lots more to come.

Homework and other information

Good afternoon everyone, happy Monday to you all.

This week is the beginning of our Snapshot fortnight so the children will be completing their work in their new snapshot jotter which will come home to you at the end of next week.

I would like to remind everyone that in line with the current covid guidelines, we are required to keep the school well ventilated at all times. At this time of year this can mean that our class is a little cold therefore jumpers and cardigans would be very useful to save the children having to wear their jacket in the class.

Every Monday, our class has time in the outdoor classroom. As the weather begins to deteriorate, could I suggest that those that can, bring either wellies or old shoes with them on a Monday to save getting school shoes muddy.

For homework this week, the children have their poster to complete for Wednesday. Some of these have been returned already and are looking great. I have heard that some will be displayed in local supermarkets!

I have given the children their new number practice jotter home today for them to complete number one’s. Please ask the children to take their time when completing these as completing these will benefit their overall skills with a pencil. Could I please ask that these are returned to class by Friday.

Reading homework will be distributed tomorrow to be completed on bug club by Friday. Books for this week will be:

Book Bandits – The Mermaids and the Dolphin

Page Pirates – Senses

Word Wizards – Eco Apes Use Rubbish

Sound Stars – no book this week, we are going to try something new

These books have been allocated on Bug club but can I ask that the children do not complete them until after tomorrow when we will have gone over them in class.

Additionally, if any child has not completed last weeks bug club book could I ask for this to be done as soon as possible to prevent them from falling behind their group.

As always if anyone has any concerns or things they wish to discuss with myself or Mrs Smith please contact use through the school office or see us at the door at 3pm.

Thank you

Mrs MacNee

Music

I really hope this works. The children have been working hard in their music class. Here are 2 songs we have been learning. They are all fantastic little singers. I love working with them in the music room.

Junk

Hello,

If you have any junk modelling at home (boxes, toilet roll tubes etc), it would be great if the kids could bring them in to use  for our current science topic. Thank you,

Mrs Smith

Change of plan!!

In your child’s bag tonight you will find a sheet for them to make a poster of one thing that we could change to help save the earth. This was added to homework for this week unexpectedly, however it is not due to be returned until next Wednesday 27th October. Therefore, I decided not to distribute the numeracy homework this week to allow more time for the children to work on their posters.

Sorry for any confusion

Mrs MacNee

Homework WB 19th October

Welcome back everyone. Hopefully you have been able to enjoy some time together over the October holidays. I have heard today about all the adventures the class have been having over the holidays. We decided at pyjama day sounded just as much fun as a trip to a safari park!

For homework this week, as usual the class have a book to complete on bug club.

Book bandits – I Like to Collect

Page Pirates – Bug Boy Beetle Cookies

Word Wizards – See Like Me

Sound Stars – Tin Man Tim

The children all have a sheet in their bags tonight on which they have written their spelling words for this week. On the back of this sheet they are to practise their spelling words in whatever way they would like (e.g. rainbow writing, bubble writing). When we spoke about it in class today they had a lot of ideas so I am looking forward to seeing what they produce.

Numeracy homework will come home tomorrow in a jotter. For the next few weeks I would like the class to focus on their number formation. Everyone in the class has room to improve with this skill and it will help our work going forward if we tackle this now. This week they will simply have to write the number one.

As always, if there are any issues or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me either via the yellow diaries or by seeing me at the school door. Alternatively you can call the school office who will pass along any information.

Thank you

Mrs MacNee

Homework WB 4/10/21

Our homework this will be slightly different than on previous weeks. The children will have an I spy sheet where they are took look around their home, or wherever suits, to find things containing the phonemes that we have worked on since the start of term. Please encourage them to use their knowledge of their phonics to spell the words that they write.

For numeracy this week I would like the children to search around their home for places that they find numbers. I have given them a sheet to fill in and have asked for 5 different things, although I am sure many of the children will find a great deal more than this!

We will go over our new reading books in class tomorrow ready for the children to complete thereafter. Books for this week will be:

Book Bandits – My Holiday

Page Pirates – Zip and Zap and the Thing

Word Wizards – The Quiz went Fizz

Sound Stars – Tin Man Tim

Also, just a wee reminder that we are off school next week with the children returning on Tuesday 19th October.

Gym

Gym days are now confirmed. Gym will be on a Tuesday and Friday. Feel free to send a gym bag in which can be kept in school. We will send these home at the end of each term to be washed. Thank you.
