Homework

Good afternoon everyone,

Our homework for this week is spelling practice and bug club reading. This week we are revising the phonemes th and ng as well as revising some of our common words. To help the children with this I have attached a grid from which they can choose two or three activities to complete for their words.

Active Spelling Homework

If I could suggest that the children in the Word Wizards and Sound Stars complete all of the common words and the first three words from each of the phoneme lists. However, if your child wishes to practice more words than that then please encourage them. The children in the Book Bandits and the Page Pirates should try to practice all of the words. The class know which groups they are in but if there are any issue please get in touch.

Additionally, the children have all been assigned a new bug club reading book which we have gone over today in class. Hopefully this will be hassle free for everyone this week after one groups book being removed from the system last week after I had assigned it to them!

Thank you

Monday 6th September – Science

Our new topic is Autumn Wildlife. Today we investigated the differences between living and non living things. We made some guesses using pictures in class and gave the reasons for our answers, using our incorrect answers to help us learn. Then we went to the outdoor classroom to investigate what living and non living things we could find there. We found living things such as flowers, grass, trees and leaves in the garden and had great fun bringing them to Mrs MacNee. We found non living things like fences, planters, the school building and the tarmac path. We had great fun.

Homework

Today we began to work in our literacy groups. Our aim is to eventually work independently, this will take some work but we will get there. The children have new literacy groups and today I have been practicing reading with some of the groups from their new reading books on bug club. If you have any issues with accessing bug club from home please contact me and I will make appropriate arrangements for your child.

Our literacy groups are:

Book Bandits – who are reading Bug Boy: Beetle Cookies

Page Pirates – who are reading Herb the Spinning Hamster

Word Wizards – who are reading Yak’s Pants

Sound Stars – who are reading It’s a Din!

We are practicing the sounds ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ in class this week and we have some spelling words to go along with this. We will practice these in class this week and begin to send spelling words home for homework next week.

Could I please ask that all snacks for playtime are placed into school bags and not lunch bags. As we are now using the lunch hall we are separated from our lunch bags first thing in the morning so it is easier if snacks are in school bags. Thank you!

I have not sent yellow diaries home today as it became apparent yesterday that I do not have all of the diaries from last year. I will rectify this soon and begin to issue these properly.

Monday 30th August 2021

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Today the class watched their first virtual assembly where Mrs Mckee spoke to us via Teams and reminded us of the school values. We also wrote about our weekend and listened to each other as the last of the class told us all about them. Thank you for your help with the all about me bags, the children have enjoyed talking to their class and we have enjoyed learning about each other.

Some of you may have noticed that your child has been assigned a bug club book. Please do not start this with them until tomorrow as I have not spent any time on class on this yet. Any forgotten passwords can be retrieved from me in class.

I gave the class out their yellow diaries today which we will use for communication throughout the year. Please feel free to write anything you wish to tell me in this book, I aim to look at them daily but this may not always be possible. Anything that you feel is urgent can be communicated through the school office.

Have a great week

Mrs MacNee
