P5E 2D shapes – right angles and tiling

P5 E have been exploring the properties of 2D shapes.

Pupils are being encouraged to look for right angles and tiling in the real world – please encourage your child to spot these at home and when you are out and about.

Pupils can share with the class what they have seen by talking about it (you could make a list), taking pictures to show us (you can bring in a pen drive, upload on to your own e-portfolio, print it out) or maybe even illustrate/draw it.

Thank you!

Dick Institute with p5i and p5E

What  an enjoyable visit this morning to the newly revamped Dick Institute. (We can highly recommend a visit.)  We were sorry to have missed viewing the Michael Morpurgo exhibition, more so because we are studying one of his novels, The Butterfly Lion. Maybe you could manage a family visit before it finishes.

And what about our visit today?  We met the author David MacPhail who was promoting his new book,  White Feather,  whilst regaling us with stories about being an author alongside his mum Catherine . The children were great listeners and put some really interesting questions to David. He was equally impressed with questions like,  “Where does your inspiration come from?” “How do you create characters?” “How long does it take to write a book?” …

Dance and Yoga in P5E

We have been learning some traditional African dances in P.E-check out our fabulous moves:

We have also been developing our flexibility by practising yoga:

The theme today was Harry Potter, it was great fun!

Adventurous Adverbs in P5E

P5 E have been learning about adverbs and how to use them. The pupils were sent on a hunt and had to think of suitable adverbs to describe the verb in the middle of each page.

Pupils who finished early were to use a thesaurus to help generate more adverbs.

We also played a fun game to revise nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. We created silly sentences that made us all laugh.

P5i HOMEWORK

Pupils have a new 6 week spelling grid with three choices per week. As well as writing words correctly three times, children should attempt a HOT and an EXTRA HOT challenge at least once in the six week period.

We are now looking at Decimals in Maths as reflected in this week’s homework.  Well done to all children who completed the recent problem solving challenge.

Learn Its for this week are:

7 + 3;    5 + 8;    5 x 5 ;    8 x 7;    9 + 2

Could I ask that parents check their child’s homework diary and sign it once homework has been completed?

P5E Active Learning

P5E have been continuing The Butterfly Lion and this week learned more about the 4 biomes in Africa, the novel’s main setting. It wasn’t an easy task though – pupils had to use their skimming and scanning skills to find the information and report back to the class. There was also some code cracking. As always the pupils made a great effort and most enjoyed the ‘hunt’ for information.
