Coronavirus – Teaching Resource

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope everyone is safe and well.

A child friendly resource has become available for teaching young children about the corona virus which I would have used to teach my pupils. The resource has been put together by Twinkl and if you would like a copy of the PowerPoint to discuss it with your child, please let me know.  I can put the file on the Teams page or provide a link for you to access directly.

P5i Incredibles

Our last day before the Easter break was bittersweet, but we tried to ensure that whilst keeping children emotionally and physically safe, they had fun with their friends in school.
It was a treat to watch the children interact with each other as they completed their art activities, as they enjoyed socialising with their stage partners in our make shift cafe –    thanks for having us all Mrs Kilpatrick –    and as they took part in our Ping Pong tournament. Giving our P7s a meaningful and heartfelt send-off at 3:00 rounded off our day.
It will be a while before we can all learn and socialise in this way again, but please know that:
We are handing children back to parents – but only for a little while. We teachers have so much more we want to do for our pupils. Please take care of them.

P5 Covid-19 Update

P5 Covid19 covernote

Update by Mrs Mills now including contact email addresses:

We have put together a learning pack for your child. As we don’t know the duration of the closure, we have attempted to provide a range of activities which we would encourage your child to complete throughout the day, please use your own judgement as every child and situation is different.

With such short notice we have not been able to differentiate for all levels of ability and would advise that your child completes what they can from the tasks provided.

Please regularly check Teams, the P5 Blog, and Bug Club as we will keep this updated with daily tasks and activities for your child to complete.

The jotter provided can be used to complete any written activities or assignments that cannot be done within the class Teams page or through another online format.

We would ask that, where possible, you try to keep to a routine of learning to support our young people, academically, during these challenging times.

P5 teachers will be available to answer emails from you and your children during the usual school hours and will try to respond as soon as possible.

P5i update

Tomorrow, children will receive learning packs with resources for them to use at home.  The starter pack will contain resources for maths and language and other curricular areas. There are also many useful websites with lots of educational ideas and lessons should you wish to use them.

Children should have all log in details required for school websites. If not, please contact me so this can be sorted.

Please log in to Glow and our Teams page for regular updates and resources.

Please note:                                                                                                                             Children will be taking their castles home with them at the end of the day.

P5i Maths, but not as you may know it

Children enjoyed their Maths lesson today as we consolidated knowledge on Time conversion

and then we developed mathematical calculations by playing an extended game of Bingo.  They were also challenged whilst playing Three Card Trump and Game 500. These are games you can play at home to help support your child with times tables and number operations.

Could I also remind pupils and parents that a new page has been set up using Microsoft Teams and children can access it through their normal Glow login.  Mrs Wright has set up a survey for all pupils to complete and I have included a copy of our class poem. Teams can be accessed using phones, tablets, laptops, xBox and PS4.

If you would like any more details about using Teams, please do not hesitate to contact me – or ask your child’s friends if they have been at school this week.

Mrs Irving

P.S.      I have updated Maths games on Bug Club to help revise Decimals, Fractions and Percentages.

P5i Daffodils

It’s that time of year again when children look forward to spring and learn my favourite poem, Daffodils.

Although many had committed the first verse to memory by lunch time today, could you please help your child to learn all verses?

I will (try) and post the poem on our new Teams page so that children who did not make it into school today, can read and learn the poem at home, if they are able to.

Farewell Calin!

Calin is off on an exciting new adventure as he starts at his new school soon. He will be missed but not to worry as he promised he’ll be back for a visit!

Primary 5T had a great time today as they made some kind crafts and messages to share with Calin. They also had the chance to say their goodbyes and have ANOTHER PARTY!

Below are pictures from their first day in P5 together and his last day.

Good luck Calin 🙂

Primary 5T’s Castles

Primary 5T got to hear the last of the castle presentations this afternoon and were then given the opportunity to rotate around the other classes to see their finished products. As you can see, a fantastic effort was made from all of the children. Now to find some space to display them all…

Thank you for supplying materials and supporting your child in producing super models, it is greatly appreciated. A huge well done to all involved!

Also, we managed to post our castles and shields onto our own individual glow blogs, please check them out and watch out for more posts coming soon!

Miss Telford 🙂
