Some pupils were unsure about the homework task for their shields and didn’t know what information to include for their design.
Here is an example of homework showing the symbols and colours chosen to represent their family shield. Hope this helps.

Thank you to all parents who sourced cardboard boxes for our topic on Knights and Castles . Children are now looking forward to making a start on their swords and shields on Monday.
I have updated the books on Bug Club and children now have a new selection to choose from. I have also marked and responded to the books they have read. If they see a red or orange circle against a book, that means their answer is not correct and they should go back in and correct it. I will then change the response to green.
To help children develop their skills on the topic of Time, I have also allocated games for them to play at home. Your assistance in helping them to master the skill of telling the time is much appreciated.

All P5 classes are working on the concept of time.
We are currently looking at am/pm, digital and analogue times, and will go on to durations and timetables.
Whilst some children can tell the time, it would be a great help to your child if you could help them learn how to tell the time using an analogue clock and the concepts of o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. This will help to reinforce the work being taught and boost their confidence when doing work in class.

Happy New Year to all parents and pupils.
Children came in this morning all excited to share news about their gifts and treats. It was lovely to hear their stories and about the highlights being time spent with family.
Today was very productive and children worked hard for a first day back. They are now looking forward to developing our topic on Knights and Castles and are eager to make swords and shields. To enable them to do this could I please ask if you could collect a box from your supermarket – similar to the one shown which measures 40 x 50 x 30 cms – so that they can be cut up and shared? The cardboard has to be stiff enough to form a shield so boxes are ideal.
Children have also been asked to consider three points that are important to them as a family and to allocate a symbol to each point. For example a dove is a symbol of peace. Rose is a symbol of love… These symbols will then be transferred to their shields. The deadline for boxes is Monday 20th January.

Just a reminder of this week’s homework.
Our sound for this week is words containing ‘oy’ and Task E – finding synonyms using our words.
Our math homework is a plea from me. Could children please learn their timetables? Pupils are enjoying their work with decimals but many any are struggling to complete decimal/fraction tasks due to poor tables knowledge, which then affects their confidence. There are many games online to help support their learning – I have put many on their Bug Cub accounts – but simply writing out and repeating each table, will be of great benefit.

Pupils had a super day doing various activities connected with Pudsey and to health and well being. Thank you all for your generous donations.
The day started off well with a school fitness session and ended with a gymnastic marathon circuit for P.E., so children should be well exercised – and worn out.
Poetry winners
We also watched recording of pupils reciting their Owl and the Pussycat poem and two winners were chosen for their super actions and recital. Many congratulations to Luke and Ellie.
Pupils are now looking forward to learning our next poem! Go P5i.
Today, P5i really enjoyed their maths activity which involved answering numbered questions on decimals that had been dotted around the room. When a question had been answered by all, then each pupil would SCOOT along to the next one. What a hoot! Thanks to Miss Telford for sharing the idea 🙂

a fantastic time they had.
What a wonderful day was had by all.
The weather was beautiful and children had a great time in the fresh air – especially at the STEM water park. Our budding Archimedes had a blast opening and closing the water chutes and altering the flow of water. Which was bitter cold. However undeterred, they ran up and down the hill splashing water everywhere calling instructions to each other as the flow altered. A true hands-on learning experience. It was then on to the play park where they enjoyed the zip wire, roundabout, climbing frame … and the freedom to run around and play together.
After lunch it was the sweet making workshop and under the dusty cloud of icing sugar, pupils could be seen weighing, mixing, stirring and rolling to produce their own, unique version of peppermint creams. Well, that’s what they set out to make. I hope all parents got the opportunity to taste them.

Pupils are staff are really looking forward to our class trip tomorrow.
Thank you to all parents who volunteered to come along and support us. We look forward to catching you with you about 9:15.
Bus leaves at 9:30 and returns before 3:00.
Children should wear school jumpers and tracksuit bottoms or similar, along with weather appropriate shoes and coats ( for the rain).
Packed lunches are best carried in a carrier bag rather than school bag – saves children lugging them about the park at playtime.
