Dyslexia awareness week in Scotland runs from the 29th September until the 6th October. Dyslexia and different learning styles will be explored during our assemblies over the next couple of weeks and we will take part in this in a number of ways. We will hear from our DFS (dyslexia friendly schools) community group during our whole school assembly, we will then participate in different activities during our stage assemblies. Then, on Friday 10th October, as well as a dress down day, we will have a no pens day. This means that all learning will take place in different ways throughout the day but no pens or pencils will be allowed… outdoor learning, digital technology and active learning will take place to celebrate all learning styles.

This Friday (3rd October) the whole school will attend Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for our regular First Friday Mass.
On Friday, the Mass will have a special theme reflecting October being the Month of Mission.
During Mass, the children from P2-7 who are members of our ‘Friends of Jesus’ community group will receive their Missio Champions Badge.
Throughout the year, our Missio Champions will share their faith, as they encourage us all to love God and others through sharing the amazing work of Missio Scotland.
Mass is at 10am, and all are welcome.

Our P2 & P5-7 classes participated in a live lesson and workshop as part of ‘Climate Action Week’. Our Eco Committee have been working hard already this year, and in our classes, we were keen to learn more about climate change.
The live lesson was lead by Nicola Davidson (KSB), who explained how the effect of our lifestyles through the ages has lead to climate changes and how an American Scientist, Eunice Newton- Foote, discovered the ‘Greenhouse gas effect’ in the 1950s, showing our planet was ‘heating up’ due to increased CO2. This was officially recognised by governments globally in the 1980s and now we are seriously trying to make positive changes to combat this through world climate conferences such as the upcoming, COP30, in Brazil. In Primary 2, Miss Livingston’s class were treated to a puppet show.
Here are some photos of our workshop and live lesson…

Our Eco Committee have already got lots of exciting plans in the making and we are thrilled to be sharing news of our first week of participating in our new challenge, ‘Voyage to Venus’ , this school year. Last year, we took part in ‘Shoot to Saturn‘ and collected our S-Miles which included daily miles, our journey to school and back home.
Now, our parents/carers can also be included and let us know if they also walked, cycled etc to work and be a part of our challenge by sending a pic or an email and getting involved. Pupils will be learning more about this at assembly in the forthcoming weeks – so be sure to ask them about it! Simply click on the link below or scan the QR code on the image below/at the front entrance of the school to tell us about your S- Miles. We would love for you to join in!

Throughout the week, pupils will outdoors taking part in a range of fun and engaging activities. With this is mind could pupils please ensure they have a jacket and appropriate footwear.
To support learning at home, pupils will bring home a Maths Week homework grid. Pupils are encouraged to complete as many of the activities as possible – please take pictures and send them to the school email!
