Our School Community

This week we have special messages from members of our wider school community.  #teammc

Father Martin

Hello Boys and girls.  I am Father Martin Chambers. I am the priest at Mount Carmel School.

I am sure you will find that our school is a very happy place. When I come to Mount Carmel School, I normally talk to the boys and girls about God. In the school, we always remember how good God is to us.

God sends us his peace and his love. With the peace and love that God sends us, we will make sure Mount Carmel School is a very happy place.

Parent Council

Hello.  Our names are Amanda and Neil. Together with other parents and carers, we run the Parent Council. Our role as parents is really important. We all want the school to be successful as it has such a big impact on our kids. Our views matter so it’s important that there is some way that the school’s management, staff and the Council know what our views are, while we give support and encouragement when it’s required.

So, for a couple of hours every 3 months, we all get together with the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher for a cuppa and a chat, to find out what’s going on and how we, the parents, can help.

If you’re interested, then feel free to pop along to our meetings (they are ‘virtual’ just now due to COVID19, so you don’t even need to leave the house). You can find the dates and times on our Facebook page. We know it can be awkward joining, so please feel free to contact us beforehand, we can have a chat then introduce you to the rest of the group. They don’t bite, honest!

We hope to be saying “hello” to you very soon!

The Friends of Mount Carmel

Hello to all the new P1 Parents

The Friends of Mount Carmel (FOMC) is a fundraising group comprising of a group of parents and carers of the young people within our school. Our aim is to plan and co-ordinate various fundraising events such as School Discos, Fun Days and a Christmas Fayre along with any other activities associated with the staff and pupils of Mount Carmel Primary School that require our help.

The money we raise is used to benefit all the pupils of Mount Carmel Primary. This may be in the form of purchasing items for the schools e.g. books/equipment, facilitating transport to events e.g. covering the cost of buses for trips, providing gifts/prizes for pupils or to cover the cost of facilitating events e.g. paying for venues.

We aim to meet up face to face approximately 4 times throughout the school year so we can share ideas and plan for future fundraising events.

If this is something that you would be interested in and would like to be part of our group you are very welcome to contact us at friendsofmountcarmel@gmail.com and we will add you to our mailing list and welcome you at our next meeting when we return in august.

Look forward to meeting you all.

Deborah Boyd (Chairperson)

Scavenger Hunt

Hi boys and girls!

We hope you are all well and have had a lovely week!

Marty and Colin have been loving going on adventures outdoors as the weather has been lovely and warm. As they love being outside so much they have decided to set you an outdoor task this week – a Scavenger Hunt!!!

All you have to do is get outdoors, maybe in your garden, local park or while out on a walk and find each of the things on their list! Are you up for the challenge? We are sure you are!

Can you find:

  • something round
  • something smooth
  • something jaggy
  • 3 different types of leaf
  • 2 sticks
  • something yellow
  • something pretty
  • something that could be treasure!!!

Marty and Colin have started theirs already! Can you see which items they have found so far?!!!

Good luck everyone!! We hope you have fun on the hunt!!!

Mrs Duff and Mrs Dunsmore (Marty and Colin) xxxx

A message from our HT

Dear Parent/Carer,

Yesterday staff returned to our school to start preparations for return to school on the 12th August. As you will be aware due to the pandemic, school will be different. A blended learning model will be in place in all schools in East Ayrshire. Our Head of Education and central teams have been working with head teachers to ensure we can provide the best model based on staffing and available space.  I have submitted my proposal to the Head of Education for approval and when I have confirmation I will contact you with specific information.

I have received enquiries as to whether children should wear school uniform when they return in August. I think one of the most important things is to help our children feel part of our Mount Carmel family again.  My staff and I would like to encourage children to wear school uniform for this reason. Just before lockdown we organised a ” Uniform Exchange“. We have a range of sizes available and we would welcome any items your child has grown out of during lockdown. The clothes rails will be outside the foyer of the school   Monday to Thursday next week. We ask that you observe social distancing whilst using this facility.

I understand this has been a very difficult time for families and with the school holidays coming up many parents/carers and children are concerned about the future. School in August will look different, but the welcome back will be as warm as ever. We have really missed all our children and families and like you, yearn for things to be back to normal. This situation will pass and we will begin to be able to share simple pleasures such as seeing all our family again without the use of Zoom. Meantime, here in MCPS, we are having the biggest spring clean in history!

I will be in touch as soon as I can with further details of the arrangements for August. Meantime, stay safe.

Parent/ Carer Surveys

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we progress further into our school renewal discussions, we are keen to seek the views of our parents, carers and pupils to help guide our next steps and indeed to review experience during lockdown. The results of this survey will also be fed back to your own schools, individually, to aid further discussions as we move forward and will also be collated at council level,

We would very ,much appreciate your time in completing this survey. If,  as a parent/ carer your children attends more than one school, please feel free to answer for each school.

Inside Out!

Paths Emotions

We all know we feel things on the inside, which shows on the outside. Our paths challenge this week was to try and identify some of the feelings we may experience by looking at facial expressions.
Did you manage to guess what some of our Mount Carmel Staff were feeling?

1: calm  2: angry  3: excited  4: tired

5: shocked  6: happy  7: scared  8: sad

Henrietta our PATHs Hedgehog has this lovely song about feelings. Why not try singing this with Henrietta at home?

As always, stay safe and take care. Together we are Team MC!

Friday 12th June Home Learning Assembly

Hello boys and girls and welcome to our assembly today. Let us start this by listening to Fr Martin and singing a great hymn together.

Thank you Fr Martin what a beautiful way to start our assembly together with one of our favourite hymns, I hope you joined in some of the actions too.

This week has been another busy week for Home Learning, it is has been great to see all the activities that you have been working on and all the different skills that you are learning from members of your family.

We also had our first Virtual Sports Day. Thank you to all of you that were able to take part in this. It was lovely to see so many photographs and videos showing just how hard you tried at all of the different challenges. It was also great to see some of new Primary 1 children taking part in the challenges too, well done! Next week we have a special video to share showing some highlights from teachers and pupils. Mrs McGahon is currently collating a total of all the points from this and the winning house will be shared during our next Home Learning Assembly.

Thank you to our Primary 5 and 6 buddies that completed an additional task this week for our new Primary 1s, please follow this link to see what they have been working on.

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/mountcarmelps2017/p1-transition-group-2020-2021/say-hello-to-your-buddies/

During our PATHS activities, we talk a lot about our emotions and feelings. We have spent some time talking about comfortable and uncomfortable feelings. This week we have an additional challenge for you, can you recognise what these feelings are and if they are comfortable or uncomfortable. What other feelings can you think of? Are these comfortable or uncomfortable?

Follow this link to see our lovely staff showing a range of emotions.

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/mountcarmelps2017/2020/06/08/paths-challenge/

To finish our assembly today we have a Proud Cloud to share from Mrs Strachan.

Thank you all so much boys and girls and continue to stay safe.

With love from all of the staff

Notification of return dates for East Ayrshire Schools

Dear Parents/Carers and Young People,

Following a meeting today with the  professional associations at council level, we are now in a position to advise of the return dates of all schools in EAC.

Teachers will return on the 11th August for an in-service day and pupils will return on Wednesday 12th August. Clearly, not all pupils will return physically to school on that day and we will advise you as soon as possible around physical attendance patterns for our young people.

We hope that you will find this information helpful at this time, and we will issue further information about remaining term dates for 20/21 in due course.

This week you have all continued to work so well on all of your different activities from your teachers and so many of you are learning life skills too – cooking, gardening and helping out around the house.  Well done for being such great stars.

This week we have Proud Clouds from Mrs McCreadie and from Miss Mudge.  Have a look at the things they are proud of:

Thank you for all of your Proud Cloud contributions.  Mrs Crawford has been adding these to our blog have a look at our latest Proud Clouds.

One of the activities that we used to do each day as part of our PATHS programme was to share compliments for our PATHS Pupil of the Day.  This is something that you can still do at home.  This week try to choose one family member each day to give compliments to; remember that person should also give a compliment to themselves too.

Our Primary 5 and 6 future buddies have been thinking about what makes our school great and will soon be sharing their ideas with our new Primary 1 children and families.  Miss Mudge has been busy creating a beautiful end of year celebration for our Primary 7 children – we can’t wait to see what the final item will look like.

Just before our assembly comes to an end we have some exciting new about next week.  Normally in the month of June, Mount Carmel has a special Health Week and a Sport Day.  Next week we shall continue this tradition with our first Home Learning Health Week and Sports Day.  There is a special post that tells you all about it with some great clips of our teachers taking part in the challenges.  We hope that you all enjoy the Health Week linked Home Learning Tasks and especially enjoy your Sports Day challenge.  If you are able to we would to see some videos or pictures of what you are doing, please send these on to your class teacher.

Thank you boys and girls for all that you continue to do, keep safe.

Remember that we love and miss you all.  Have a look at this special message from all of the staff in the school just to say how much we miss you and are looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Marty Bear has something new to wear!

Last week we told you that Katie MacKinnon was the winner of our Marty Bear t-shirt competition. Our super talented Mrs Taylor has been very busy on her sewing machine and now Katie’s design is a real t-shirt that Marty has been able to wear in this hot weather! Doesn’t he look cool?
