East Ayrshire Book Festival impRinT was back as an in-person event this year…

 

Scottish Artist, Frank Quitely visited the Dick Institute to talk about his Artwork and career.

Frank Quitely is mostly known for his drawings of Superman and Batman amongst other characters from comics.

He pencils, inks and colours Comics and artwork for Films.

He also works with writers and writes work of his own.

Frank Quitely is a Pen Name – His real name is Vincent Deighan,

He grew up in Glasgow reading…

The Broons, Oor Wullie and Desperate Dan!

At the Dick Institute he talked about how important his local library was to him. – He borrowed all kinds of books both Fact and Fiction including Historical, Traditional Tales, Myths and Legends -stories fom Ancient Greece, Rome and of course Scotland.

He would read and draw everything that he could get his hands on!

He talked about how he always knew that he had a talent for drawing and that he always wanted to be an artist.

He also talked about how much he observes and practises his drawing.

We looked at the work of Kandinsky and enjoyed experimenting with mixing colour.

We had a go at painting Concentric Circles.
