History is all around us.  Just spending a little amount of time looking closely can help us to see many artefacts from long ago.  In this video clip, Natalie finds some local historical evidence and encourages others to go out to see what they can find in their local area.

LOST Newsletter

As highlighted in our newsletter last week, we have been uploading lots of activities and resources for learners with Additional Support Needs.  This week, Aly shows you an activity which can be carried out with learners across all levels, but which might be particularly enjoyed by learners with ASNs due to the hands on, tactile and sensory nature of the activity.  Learners can create letters in their name, letters they know and numbers using natural materials, or even physically.

LOST Newsletter

Each year Eco Schools Scotland 

organises a KSB – One Planet Picnic 

– a fun way to make your food and drink choices environmentally friendly

This year’s picnics will be virtual and are a great way to involve families in an end of school year event.

You can hold your picnic whenever you wish though the big event is on the 17th!

Last week, Carolyn showed you to create your own notebook for taking outdoors and recording all that you see.  This week, we are following this activity up with some links to literacy experiences and outcomes and the #30DaysWild challenge.  Here, Carolyn shows you how she has been using her notebook over the last week and suggests some activities that you could share with your learners (or do yourself!).

Shapes are all around us, indoors and out and are easy to spot and learn about! Making shapes from natural materials presents a hands on way for children to create different shapes and think carefully about their properties. What do they need to think about to make a square and not a rectangle? Can they create regular and irregular shapes? Are some materials easier than others to use? Maths trails are a fun and engaging way to use and learn maths skills outdoors. They can be used to learn new things, apply and enhance learning in different contexts and to make numeracy and maths learning relevant by linking it to real life and demonstrating maths in the world around us.
