We were very lucky to have a visit from Kilmarnock Football Club’s Community Trust this week. The pupils had lots of fun playing different football based games within the amazing Hexagol that they brought along. It was a bonus that the sun was shining.
Primary 2/3 have been learning about the PAThS control signals and how they can use these to manage their feelings to prevent them from ‘losing their temper’ and behaving in a way they might regret.
We read a story which spoke about how we all have an imaginary balloon inside us that gets filled more and more each time we feel an uncomfortable feeling such as anger or upset and once it gets too full it can burst which causes us to behave in a certain way. Usually the way we behave at this point is a ‘not okay’ behaviour and we can often regret it. Using the PAThS control signals, P2/3 have been discussing times when their imaginary balloon has burst in the past and how they reacted to this. They then discussed plans they could have made if they had known about and used the control signals to help them cope with the situation. They came up with some fantastic plans.Â
PAThS Pupil
As always, we selected a random pupil from the class to compliment to help boost their self-esteem and build confidence.
Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about creative dance. We have been learning about the 4 main dance shapes – pin, wall, twist and ball and how these can be danced at different heights.
Using the story, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch, we created our own dances using key features of the story – the cottage, the boat, the waves, the seaweed and seagulls to inspire us.
We used our topic, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch to inspire us to create dances today.  We learnt to create different shapes using the lighthouse, the cottage, a shell and the waves.
This week primary 2/3 have completed a review lesson in PAThS which has focused on all of the feelings they have learned so far this year. Next week the pupils will be moving onto the next unit in PAThS which focuses on coping strategies to manage different feelings.
See this week’s PAThS pupil below and the compliments he received from his peers.Â
The focus this term as part of our learning in Health and Wellbeing is to explore different occupations. Primary 2/3 were looking at different careers in the field of science. They have identified some excellent careers on their worksheets. See a selection below.
We have been learning about medicines, harmless and harmful substances. In pairs or trios, the class were given scenario cards and asked to act out the situation. Â Everyone was fantastic in their roles and responded appropriately to the scenarios they were given.
We have been spreading the kindness all week for Anti Bullying Week as part of their #OneKindWord theme. Yesterday as you know we went on a community kindness walk to Hallhouse. We made posters to hold up at the windows with kind words and some of the residents even came outside to meet us. On the way back we stopped at the pharmacy and the pupils sang ‘You Are a Star’ to the pharmacists. It was a lovely afternoon with lots of smiles.
P2/3 shared more kindness today by participating in massage as part of Anti-Bullying Week. Â It was a wonderful peaceful and relaxing time for the class.
We started our new focus in PE today. Â We are going to be developing our tennis skills over the coming weeks. Â Today we focused on ball and racquet familiarisation.
