Harvest Hush-In 2022

Harvest Service – Wednesday 12th October @ 9.15am

A warm welcome is extended to all family and friends to come and join us to celebrate our Harvest Thanksgiving next Wednesday 12th October. Please note we are not asking for food donations this year, thank you.

Catrine Primary School – Harvest Hush-In

To help raise money for school funds we are hosting a Sponsored Silence on Wednesday 12th October.

P1, P2 and P3 pupils will aim for 30 minutes silence, with P4 to P7 pupils trying to be quiet for 45 minutes!

The Harvest Hush-In will take place in class between 1.00pm and 2.00pm.  The pupils will read books and complete activities related to reading.  Each class has a class library so there is a wide range of books available.

All money raised will go towards transport costs for our whole school cinema trip in December – details to follow.

As we are a cashless school, donations for the Harvest Hush-In should be made on ParentPay – this means that we don’t need individual sponsor sheets. When you log into your ParentPay account, you will see a Harvest Hush-In notification – you can donate as much as you like (minimum donation of £1.00).  Please do not send cash into the school.

Please contact the school for any more information, thanks for your continued support and we hope you can join us at our Harvest Service next week.     Mrs Govans

Parents Night – Wednesday 12th October

We are delighted that we are able to welcome our parents/carers back into school to meet with their child’s teachers at our Parents Nights next week, on Wednesday 12th October.

Appointments are available from 3.20pm, with each appointment lasting for 10 minutes.

This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, have a wee look through their jotters and class work, ask any questions you may have about their progress and find out their learning targets for next term.

Please phone the school for an appointment on 01290 551436 and we look forward to opening our doors to you for our first in-school Parents Night since October 2019!

Maths Open Morning

We were so delighted today to finally open our doors and welcome our pupils’ families back in to our school!

It was amazing (and quite emotional) to see so many of you this morning and the staff and children were so proud to show off all the fantastic work that takes place in our classrooms.

A huge well done to our superstars Ellie and Hannah who stood up and demonstrated their maths skills, they were outstanding.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We will look through these and look at ways at continuing  to support pupils and families with maths. Look out for future posts on how we have responded to your suggestions.

Thank you so much once again, we really loved having you all back!

Mrs Schendel

Maths Week Scotland

This week is Maths Week Scotland and we are looking forward to taking part in lots of activities throughout the week.

Following on from the success of last  year, we are relaunching our National Numeracy’s Family Maths scrapbooks and activities. These are activities that help children and families to explore everyday maths at home together. They link the maths that children are learning at school with life outside the classroom.

To help you and your child complete these activities every pupil will bring home a toolkit packed full of equipment to help you get creative.

Please come along to our Maths Open Morning this Wednesday 28th at 9am for more information on supporting your child at home with maths.  You will also have the opportunity to  visit your child’s classroom and see all the amazing maths activities that take place there every day.

Have fun exploring your toolkit and I look forward to looking through the scrapbooks.

Dress Down Day – Thursday 15th September 2022

Our P7 pupils are kickstarting their fundraising for their Leavers Hoodies by inviting all pupils to join them in a Dress Down Day next Thursday.

Pupils can donate £1 via Parent Pay and come to school wearing casual clothes ( no football colours please).

P7 have a few more fundraising events planned throughout the year, and they’d like to thank you for your support.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

When we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June this year, we wrote letters in our classes and posted them off to Buckingham Palace.  We have received this lovely letter from Balmoral Castle, thanking the pupils of Catrine PS for their letters and best wishes.

Every pupil is also coming home with a free memorial book to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee.  Happy reading!

Plop! In the Ocean

For all Primary 1, 2 and 3 children

We are delighted that the  Hopscotch Theatre Company will be visiting us on Thursday 15th September, for an afternoon show of their play Plop! In the Ocean.

Plop! In the Ocean’, is an eco-fable written by bard of Glastonbury and Roald Dahl Foundation storyteller in residence, Sarah Mooney, taking the form of a slapstick ancient Greek comedy. ‘Plop!’ was written using Sarah’s diaries and experiences during an expedition sailing across the Atlantic Ocean with a team of ten female scientists studying plastic pollution and ocean toxicity. ‘Plop!’ focuses on ways to communicate with and educate young people about the impact ocean toxicity is having on our planet. How they can begin with small steps to understand the problem, in a sensitive way for their age group, and what changes they can make in their own day to day lives to foster positive sustainability in the future. It also promotes positive representation in areas such as STEM.

Outdoor Learning Day #1 – 14/09/22

We are looking forward to having our first whole school Outdoor learning Day on Wednesday 14th September.

All classes will be split into their House groups for the morning, and will take part in a wide range of activities.

Pupils should come to school wearing appropriate footwear (wellies/old trainers), jacket and trousers to ensure they can take a full part in the learning tasks.

Pupils should still wear school uniform on top and  can bring a change of trousers and shoes, if they wish.

We will be posting lots of photos on Glow to show what we have been learning. Fingers crossed for a dry day.
