Family Ceilidh

What a fantastic night we had last night at our family ceilidh!

A huge thank you to all our parents and careers who came along and participated so enthusiastically in every one of our dances. What a wonderful family atmosphere!

We were so proud of our pupils who showed off all the skills they have been learning in their PE classes over the past few weeks.

School Values

The Rights Respecting Schools Committee met today for the first time. We have been looking at our school values. We are looking to make our school values easier to remember. Our committee suggested using the acronym Catrine to do this.

We are looking for some suggestions of values that represent our school and community.

Our Committee suggested:

Caring/ Courage
Ambition/ Achieving
Teamwork/ Trust
Respect/ Responsible
Inclusive
Nurtured
Excellence/ Empathy

Please add your suggestions to the survey below.

Rights Respecting Schools

Dear Parents/Carers

We are becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School!

Catrine Primary aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.  As part of this plan we are working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of Unicef UK.

We have created a Rights Respecting Schools Committee with pupils from Primary 1 to 7. We had our first meeting today on Wednesday 8th February. We spoke about children’s rights and completed a few activities about our needs and wants.

We found out that you have the right to an education, the right to a name, the right to play and the right to have a safe house/shelter. These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfill their potential.

We really hope that you will be able to support our school on our journey towards becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School. The first goal of our committee is to achieve ‘Bronze’ Accreditation as a Rights Respecting School. We can’t wait to share our journey with you over the next few months.

You can keep up  to date with our progress by clicking the Rights Respecting Schools tab, which can be found at the top of the main blog.

School Library

We are the library committee and we are really hoping to create a library in school.  We desperately need books in good condition to use in the library.  If you have any old books that you have out grown or don’t really like anymore please send them into the school office. Your donations are really appreciated. Lexie B (School Library)

Christmas Thanks for #Team Catrine

As we close today at 2.30pm for our Christmas holidays, it’s time for some big Thank You messages!

Thank you … to our Cleaning and Janitorial Teams of Helen, Janette and Stuart,  for making sure our classrooms and learning areas are always clean, warm, safe and ready for us to use.  Special thanks to our jannie, Mr McCreath, for also being our Lollipop Man this term and getting our pupils safely to and from school.

Thank you … to our Catering Team of Shelagh, Helen, Pauline and Tracey for our delicious school lunches.

Thank you … to our Senior Clerical Assistant, Mrs Robertson, for getting us organised, stocked up and kept up to date.  Our school office is a very busy place and she keeps us all running like clockwork!

Thank you… to our Classroom Assistants – Mrs Watt, Mrs Goudie and Miss Brown – for their professional and enthusiastic attitude towards the million different tasks they are asked to do on a weekly basis!  Their support of our pupils is just wonderful.

Thank you … to our class teachers – Mrs Cook and Mrs Ferguson, Mrs McKenna and Miss Norman, Miss McLean and Mrs McCaig, Miss Murdoch and Miss Burleigh – for their creative, interesting and challenging teaching and learning approaches as they continually strive for the best for our pupils.

Thank you… to our Depute Headteacher, Mrs Schendel, for, amongst her very varied responsibilities, ensuring that every child receives the quality learning support that they deserve to help them achieve their potential.

Thank you … to all of the staff at Catrine ECC for sharing their wonderfully creative, inventive and fun learning and teaching approaches with us during their time at the PS.  We will miss the ECC staff and children when they return to Newton Street, and we can’t wait to visit them in their gorgeously refurbished nursery.  Special thanks to our Depute Manager, Alana, for her enthusiasm and innovation – and crazy costumes!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.  Looking forward to seeing our pupils return on Monday 9th January at 9.00am.   Take care, Mrs Govans x
