Dolphin House – Day 2

The teachers woke us up this morning with some ok music.
We had half an hour to get ready and down for breakfast at 8.30am. We enjoyed some porridge, cereal and fruit. After that we had our first dorm inspection.
Then we got ready to go our Hillwalk. Almost everyone fell asleep on the bus heading TO Loch Doon – before we even climbed the hill! We got to Loch Doon and we climbed Knocknearie Hill, walked along Ness Glen and visited Dalcairney Falls.
We had macaroni and garlic bread for dinner followed by apple crumble and custard. Some people had some fruit too.
Tonight we learned a bit more about John Muir and enjoyed a fun games night.

Rights Respecting Schools

At our last committee group we were learning all about Article 27. Article 27 is about having the right to a proper house, food and clothing. 

We then looked at our needs and our wants. We discussed and designed two houses, one to show the things that we need such as electricity, water, a safe house with a roof, a bed, clothes, toilet, something to make food on and someone to help look after us.

After that we designed our second house and this had the different things that we might want in our house but aren’t essential. This included things like a tv, Switch, toys, a pool, dog, flowers, Netflix and PS5.

Today we said a fond farewell to Janet Fleming.

Janet has served our school community as a member of our cleaning team for 33 years, and has given us lots of happy memories over this time.  Janet will continue to be our Janitor at Catrine ECC and we were delighted to present her with flowers and gifts at FUN 31.

She is pictured with our oldest pupil, Ashton in P7 and our youngest pupil, Emily in P1, and her colleague of 27 years, Helen.

Thank you, Janet,  for your many years of dedicated service to the pupils, staff and families of Catrine PS.

British Science Week

We were delighted to welcome George Burns back to Catrine Primary this week.
George is a STEM Ambassador who has supported the school with many STEM projects in the past . As part of British Science Week, George came to share with P4-7 pupils his wealth of knowledge about engineering & his career. We really appreciate George taking the time to come & speak to us. We look forward to him returning on Wednesday, to work with the STEM committee.

A huge thank you also goes to Miss Murdoch & the STEM committee for organising such a fun filled week, with lots of different STEM based activities for us to try in our classes.

School Values

The Rights Respecting Schools Committee met today for the first time. We have been looking at our school values. We are looking to make our school values easier to remember. Our committee suggested using the acronym Catrine to do this.

We are looking for some suggestions of values that represent our school and community.

Rights Respecting Schools

Dear Parents/Carers

We are becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School!

Catrine Primary aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.  As part of this plan we are working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of Unicef UK.

We have created a Rights Respecting Schools Committee with pupils from Primary 1 to 7. We had our first meeting today on Wednesday 8th February. We spoke about children’s rights and completed a few activities about our needs and wants.

We found out that you have the right to an education, the right to a name, the right to play and the right to have a safe house/shelter. These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfill their potential.

We really hope that you will be able to support our school on our journey towards becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School. The first goal of our committee is to achieve ‘Bronze’ Accreditation as a Rights Respecting School. We can’t wait to share our journey with you over the next few months.

Class Blogs

We have completed our first full week back & we are delighted to be able to share our class blogs with you all.

This is where you will find specific class information & get a snapshot of some of the things your child/children have been up to since returning to school.

To access your child’s class blog from a mobile phone, click the 3 lines at the top of this page (see photo below) & you will see the title Primary School Classes. From there you will be able to select your child’s class from the list.

Staying Safe Online 📱🖥💻

The internet can be a wonderful tool & we are using it more and more whether at home, in school, on mobile phones, or a games console. However, online access also comes with risks, like inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and online predators.
It is important that we understand enough about the internet to keep our children safe from harm but it is equally important that we equip our children with the skills they need to keep themselves safe so they can experience the internet positively and responsibly.

We are delighted to promote the ‘Safer Schools’ App. This App is a reliable source of advice on all things Cyber. It gives empowering, current and informative information on all current digital platforms/tools/apps in an accessible manner.

To access your parent platform please:

-Go to your app store or Google Play and search for ‘Safer Schools’

-In school field type ‘East Ayrshire Council’

-The code for primary parents is: 7440

We would recommend that you discuss with your child about which apps and social media platforms they currently use/access. This will help ensure they know how to stay safe online – using the app to start these types of conversations is great.

Primary 1/2

Primary 1/2 have had a wonderful start to term one. We have started a book study based on The Colour Monster, this has promoted discussions all about our emotions. We have designed our own monsters after reflecting on how we feel. We also discussed each emotion and spoke about the things that make us feel these different emotions. 

We have enjoyed making new friendships with the people in our class and exploring our class resources. 

P7 Transition Meeting with The Robert Burns Academy staff

Good Morning!

If you have already accessed the P7 Transition team, you may have noticed a message from Miss Naismith. Miss Naismith and Mr Kyle from The Robert Burns Academy are holding an online transition meeting for the P7 pupils. This meeting will take place on Tuesday 9th June at 11 am. This is a fantastic opportunity for our current Primary 7 children to ask any questions that they may have about starting at the academy in August.

To join the meeting you will need to access Microsoft Teams. I have included some help sheets to help you get set up on Microsoft Teams.
