Another busy week for P3!

Literacy

P3 have been learning to recognise proper nouns this week and have also spent lots of time practising their new spelling words using diacritical marking.

As we are focusing on narrative writing this term, P3 have began the process of creating their own narrative story. This week we focused on the main character of our story which is a robot. All pupils designed their own robot and described the colour, size and any special features they may have. We even had some robots that could do the dishes!

Numeracy and Maths 

Our focus Number Talks strategy this week requires pupils to use their knowledge of place value to solve addition calculations. Next week we will continue using this strategy to solve subtraction calculations.

The pupils have also explored fact families for addition and subtraction calculations in numeracy using practical materials. Following this, all pupils  can now confidently state fact families for various calculations.

Additionally, P3 have began building on their knowledge of data handling this week. The pupils were tasked with designing their own pizza with several different toppings. They then counted the number of each toppings using tally marks and presented this information using a frequency table. Next week we will present this information using a bar graph.

All Other Curricular Areas 

The pupils are now experts in identifying bones in the human body and were able to use this knowledge to create their own human skeleton. Next week we will begin to explore the functions of the major organs in the human body.

P3 have also been learning to log into computers and to locate different facilities on the computer more independently.

Homework – Week Beginning 01.11.21

Spelling

All pupils have their spelling words in their jotter. If I have not received a pupil’s jotter from last week I will provide them with a printed copy.

The pupils should continue to use the sheet they were given last week with some examples of spelling activities. Choose two (or more!) activities to do throughout the week.

Maths 

Pupils will continue to do their maths homework in their National Numeracy scrapbook.

This week’s activity is in the scrapbook.  You can complete the activity in any way you want.  You might want to write a list of the 3D objects you find around the house, draw pictures or take photographs (which can be emailed to the class teacher).

P3 spent a lot of time in term 1 identifying 2D shapes and  3D objects. As a result, I would like to encourage you and your child to write a comment on the sheet to let us know how you got on.  Did you enjoy doing the activity together and why?  Did you find anything tricky? Was there something that your child did or said that really impressed you?

Weekly Roundup

P3 have worked extremely hard this week!

All pupils in P3 have enjoyed learning to add up in chunks using their latest Number Talks strategy. Additionally, P3 have been exploring symmetry and can now confidently fold shapes to identify lines of symmetry. They can also use a mirror to identify lines of symmetry in shapes, pictures and patterns. They have even had a go at creating their own symmetrical patterns.

In literacy pupils  have been learning to write narrative stories with a spooky theme! Through this pupils have developed detailed characters and settings, using their notes to create stories with a clear and detailed beginning middle and end.

The pupils have also enjoyed learning about the human body and learning the months of the year in French!

After working so hard it was only fair they got to enjoy a spooky film and party this Friday!

Finally, a big big well done to our star workers Maddisen for her amazing efforts in maths, as well as Harper for her fantastic efforts in Literacy!

 

 

Science and Art with P3

P3 have been very busy today exploring the human body. They were able to identify bones such as the skull, rib cage, femur, and many more. Following this, the pupils used this knowledge to correctly label a life size model of a human skeleton!

Pupils also identified and labelled where our major organs are in the human body. They could then explain that the purpose of our bones are to support our body and protect these organs.

The pupils also had a blast creating abstract artwork, in the form of Frankenstein, for our Halloween themed wall display!

The school is very excited to be working with the National Numeracy charity this year.  We are so lucky that they have given all the children in the school a scrapbook in which to do their maths homework.

This week’s activity is in the scrapbook.  You can complete the activity in any way you want.  You might want to draw pictures, write calculations, make models or take photographs (which can be emailed to the class teacher).

Weekly Round Up

Mrs Schendel has been our teacher on Thursday and Friday this week.

We have been reading Cat in the Cat and wrote our own stories about our own Cats in Hats and the mischief they got up to.

We have been learning about the Number Talk strategy of Adding up in Chunks.

The children have decided they want to decorate the classroom for Halloween so are working together to create some decorations.

 

Welcome Back!

Hello Everyone

I hope you all had a nice October break.

 

P3 are having a consolidation week of spelling. Each pupil have been sent home with their words for this week, these include words we have worked on in term 1.

I have given pupils the choice on how they want to practice their words.

Options include :

rainbow writing each spelling word

drawing a picture of the word and labeling it

writing a sentence or paragraph using as many as their words as they can

1 of the tasks above is enough, however if your child is keen to do more they can do all three. Can I ask that homework is returned by Friday.

Term 1 Round up

Good afternoon everyone,

What a first term we have had in P3. From building rockets to meditation and lots of things in between!

I hope everyone has a lovely October Holidays and I will see you all to start term 2!

Exploring the water cycle with Miss Murdoch

P3 have been exploring the water cycle in science this week with Miss Murdoch.

The pupils had previously learned that clouds are formed from liquid and gas, which led to some of our pupils feeling curious to find out how rain is collected from the earth to the clouds.

As a result of this, pupils explored the processes of the water cycle. The pupils then put this to the test and constructed an experiment to see each process of the water cycle. Following this, pupils observed changes to their experiment and recognised that heat from the sun was causing the water to evaporate and we hope to see some condensation and precipitation tomorrow!

The pupils could then use their knowledge of the water cycle to fill in a detailed diagram to explain processes such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
