Online Learning Advice For All Pupils

As our pupils start another week of online learning, it is important to recognise that we understand this can be difficult for a number of reasons. However, do not allow this to become a source of stress or anxiety for you.  Take a few minutes to read the points listed below which should help you when planning your study each week:

  • Sometimes accessing Teams through Glow can be slow and frustrating due to the high volume of traffic on the site. The link shown here advises you how to download the Microsoft Teams app onto your desktop, phone or tablet. We have found this far quicker than accessing teams through Glow.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=vjsgfmSJtmo&feature=emb_logo

  • Make sure you use the online planners for your year group to find the work set from all your teachers in one place. This will help you to create a study plan for the week. These are available on the school website and a notification is sent weekly through Twitter and the school app when they are uploaded each Sunday evening.

  • If you are struggling to understand or meet the deadlines set for any of the work set, contact your class teacher by sending them an email or by using the chat facility on Teams. Your teachers are there to support you!

And finally, remember to ‘do what you can, when you can’.  If you are having any issues speak to your class teachers where possible or contact the school via our email address.

Young Enterprise Scotland- National Finals: Vote for Learning Logs!

We would like to congratulate our group of 13 senior pupils who will compete in the Scottish Young Enterprise finals on June 2nd having already won the Ayrshire Finals earlier this year!
As part of the marking criteria the team had to submit their winning report and deliver a presentation before taking part in a 15 minute online interview with a panel of judges on the day of the Final.
The majority of this work was completed during lunch breaks and after school and as a reward for their efforts each member of the group received 26 SCQF accreditation points from the SQA for completing the Company Programme. One team member, Kaylee Johnston, also completed an voluntary piece of work for 4 additional points.
Young Enterprise Scotland have created Promotional materials for each team. There is a Peoples Choice Award which requires the most votes to win. Anyone can vote! Please vote at the link provided to support our team for their efforts!

Online Learning – Monday 4 May 2020

Good morning all.  Staff have been working hard in the past few weeks to prepare a range of online learning for all pupils from new S2 – S6.

The work has been laid out for each year group in the documents below to allow pupils and parents to see what is expected of pupils this week.

The learning is not intended to replace school and formal teaching but to allow our young people to continue to engage in learning as much as they are able to over the next few weeks.

Head Teacher Letter

Dear Parent/Carer

New Timetable for The Robert Burns Academy – 4 May 2020

I hope that you and your family are keeping safe and well during this very difficult time.

I would like to thank you for your support in ensuring that our young people have the opportunity to continue their online learning from home. Our teachers have very much enjoyed working with those who have been able to engage with them!

As you will be aware, the advice from the Scottish Government regarding staying safe at home is likely to continue for several more weeks. With this in mind, we have taken the decision to start our new timetable for the Robert Burns Academy on Monday 4 May for all pupils currently in S1-S5.

This will mean that these pupils will become the new S2-S6 on that date.

The change will not affect the current P7s at this time.

Your child will be therefore be added to the new online Robert Burns Academy Microsoft Teams in preparation for the start of the new timetable on Monday.

For instructions on how to access the online learning please click on the link below:

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/AuchinleckAcademy/2020/03/19/online-learning/

We would ask pupils to log in to GLOW from Monday 4 May and begin to complete the Online Learning in each of their subjects in Microsoft Teams. This learning will provide ideal preparation for pupils moving on to the next level or starting new subjects so that when we return to school we are able to make good progress towards completing SQA Qualifications next May.

If you have any queries, if your child has not been added to a Team for subjects they have chosen or if they have been added to the wrong Team please email:

gw09auchinleckacasm@glow.sch.uk

Please note that the most important consideration is the wellbeing of your family and I completely understand that there may well be difficulties in completing online work.

There is therefore no expectation that the work provided is completed by everyone and I do not want this to be a source of anxiety for anyone at all. Be reassured that there will be opportunities for everyone to catch up when we do eventually get back to school.

SQA Results

I would ask parents/carers of senior pupils to please note that we are unable to discuss your child’s grades with you until after the SQA Results have been issued in August 2020.

Please continue to look after yourselves and your families and do not hesitate to get in touch via the email link above if you or your children need any support with our Online Learning programmes.

Best Wishes

Peter Gilchrist

GLOW – Pupil Instructions

March Right of the Month

Article 29 (Goals of Education) – Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

Rights Fact of the Month: Rights are INALIENABLE. This means that you cannot give them away or sell them, and no one can take them away from you.

This year Auchinleck Academy is continuing to support the children of Jebbeh Kiazolu school in Liberia to access their right to education, through our ongoing sponsorship. We recently received photographs and an update on their progress, and were pleased to learn that even more pupils there are now benefitting from a daily meal provided by Mary’s Meals. Being fed at school allows these young people to attend their classes on a full stomach and properly engage in their learning.

This year we will also be running our ‘Backpack Challenge’, an initiative to provide some of the poorest children with backpacks and other basic items for school, which will help them to access their right to education. Over the last four years Auchinleck Academy has sent 113 completed backpacks to children in Malawi and Liberia, thanks to the support of our pupils, parents, staff and members of the community. If you can help out with this again all donations would be much appreciated and can be handed in to the school office, or to Mr Deeney in the Technical department. It is not necessary to give a full backpack – even just giving a single item from the following list will help:

Backpack/school bag, exercise book/notepad, pencils, pens, crayons, eraser, ruler, sharpener, pencil case, towel, shorts/skirt & t-shirt, or dress, flip flops/sandals, small ball e.g. tennis ball, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, spoon.
