Energy-Saving Superstars!

This afternoon, we kicked off the first assembly of the year with an exciting and thought-provoking session for Energy Saving Week! The theme of the assembly was “Saving Energy – Saving the Planet,” and it was packed with valuable lessons, engaging discussions, and group activities.
The children learned about:
- What energy is and how it powers our world.
- The differences between renewable and non-renewable energy sources.
- Why we need to move away from fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas.
- How solar, wind, and hydroelectric power are better for the environment.
- The importance of reducing our energy consumption to combat climate change.
- How small changes in daily habits can have a big impact, such as turning off lights, unplugging devices, and using energy-efficient appliances.
After the presentation, the children got into their group discussion circles to brainstorm practical ways they could save energy at home. Some of their brilliant ideas included:
- Switching off lights when leaving a room.
- Turning down the thermostat and wearing a cosy jumper instead.
- Using a reusable water bottle instead of one-time-use plastics.
- Shortening shower times to save hot water.
- Walking or cycling instead of using the car for short journeys.
- Encouraging their families to recycle and compost.
It was wonderful to see the children collaborating so enthusiastically and sharing ideas with each other. The assembly ended with a pledge: “We will do our part to save energy and protect our planet for the future!”
