P4 IDL Homework Renewable Energy

Well done and thank you P4 and families for the wonderful work you have prepared at home as the finale to our Energy topic.

We invited P3 along to our exhibition of work and have all the models on display outside the classroom to celebrate your efforts.  There has been all sorts of wonderful crafting, woodwork and technology to create wind turbines, solar houses, geo-thermal and hydro electricity models. I am really impressed at how well the children have worked and spoken about their projects and with the enthusiasm they have shown not only for their own work but also in the positive way they have spoken about the projects of their peers.

Good for you all P4!

Primary 3 Farm Visit

On Wednesday Primary 3 had a fantastic trip to Newhouse Farm.  Farmer Fraser Nicholson did a great job of showing us round after his visit to school earlier in the week .  We started with a visit from the farm vet and he was busy scanning some cows.  Then we saw the cows being milked and this gave us a real insight in to the journey our milk takes from farm to our fridges.  Thanks to Fiona from RHET for organising this trip and Farmer Fraser for letting us look round his farm.

P7 Operation Safety

On Friday P7 went to Operation Safety at the old hospital. It is an event where they can have a hands on safety education delivered by Police, Fire and Ambulance as well as Scottish Power energy services. We learned about how to be safe in our homes and spotted fire hazards in a bedsit and kitchen area. We also spoke about what to do if there was ever a fire in the home or building. We also learned about firework safety and how to keep ourselves safe. In the Police Scotland room we learned about internet safety and how information can be shared on line. We also took part in a scenario situation where someone had had an accident in the home, through the ambulance service we learned about making sure the area is safe and what to say when phoning 999. We also learned how to put someone into the recovery position. In the Scottish Power input we found out about how electricity gets into our homes and discussed how we use electricity. We also discussed the hazards overhead lines and electricity generators can be. We had a great day and Sophia and Caleb won the quiz at the end.

P2’s natural pattern masterpieces!

P2 have been learning about patterns in maths and today we took some inspiration from the work of the artist James Brunt, and created our own pattern designs in our woodland area.

The children worked together in small groups and used resources from nature, sticks, different coloured leaves, pine cones, conkers, stones and twigs were all used to create their pattern masterpieces!

We are delighted with how they turned out!
