Nip Nebbery, pixie pointing and listening lugs 😀😀

On Tuesday the P2 and P3 classes enjoyed a fabulous afternoon in the woodlands (in their separate classes) with the Scots author Susi Briggs.
The P3’s were following up their previous virtual ‘Nip Nebs glossary’ learning with Susi – and seemed to thoroughly enjoy meeting her after all their hard work during lockdown. The P2’s were being introduced to Susi’s enchanting stories for the first time, and also relished hearing the sounds of different Scots  words.
First,  Susi played the new audio book of Nip Nebs, read by the well known actor Gary Lewis, and accompanied by the hauntingly beautiful music  composed by Alan McClure, it was made extra special listening to it in the woods.
Then Susi read the sequel, Nip Nebs and the last Berry  to the children, and after that the children set off to find some mischevious  pixies who had run off in the woods – some very excited ‘pixie pointing ‘ ensued! 🤣🤣
Each pixie had a Scots word attached to them, and once they were all found, Susi and the children figured out what each word meant.
Tuesday was a lovely example of the children enjoying exploring Scots Language – super day! 🥰 Continue reading “Nip Nebbery, pixie pointing and listening lugs 😀😀”

P2 Read Aloud Day at Georgetown Library 📚

  • P2 enjoyed an excellent visit to Georgetown Library last week on ‘World Read Aloud Day’. The children have been reading aloud to the Everywhere Bear, so they decided to bring him along too for a wee treat!
Eileen gave the children a tour of the Non – Fiction, and Fiction areas of the library, and she was most impressed when Calvin told her the difference between the two types of book.  Bella was challenged with finding a novel in the Fiction part of the library, and she found out the the books are filed alphabetically by the author’s surname.
The children also met the resident dragon and they wondered if he was related to the dragon that visited our classroom? 🐉

P2 gymnastics fun 🤸‍♀️

  1. P2 have had excellent fun learning more about gymnastics and challenging themselves on the apparatus. They have become experts and making different gymnastic “shapes” – the T shape, the L shape, the bridge, the tuck and the pike, to name but a few!
The children were very responsible when trying out the different apparatus, and they tried their very best to land with both feet together and knees bent, just like a real gymnast! We have been reading about Nadia Comaneci who achieved a perfect 10, there were a few children who were inspired by her! 🤸‍♀️ 🤸‍♂️ 😂😂

P2’s trip to Magical Moatbrae

To complete our fairyland focus, P2 had a truly magical time at our recent visit to Moatbrae – Where Peter Pan began…

We arrived in style, chauffeur driven by Mr V, and met with our guides for the day – Wendy, Barbara and Dorito Annie. The children could hardly contain their excitement as they roamed the house and gardens.  Barbara, our house guide, told the children tales of a young J.M. Barrie  and his friends running about the house. Their imaginations were in overdrive as they ran around the nursery, catching Tinkerbell in the nursery, presenting plays in the attic, singing nursery rhymes in the reading room, peeking through the keyhole in the study and soaking up the festive spirit with the beautiful decorations. In the garden, the resident pirate, Dorito Annie held the children spellbound as they chased crocodiles, braved Tick Tock Croc, and squealed with delight as they spotted ‘crocodiles’ silently floating down the Nith! Knocking on fairy doors and planting daffodils bulbs were an added bonus. Lastly, Wendy helped the children make some beautiful Christmas cards, and read Christmas stories, before our chauffeur for the day arrived to take some very happy, but extremely tired children (and teachers!) back to school. Magical!

P2’s natural pattern masterpieces!

P2 have been learning about patterns in maths and today we took some inspiration from the work of the artist James Brunt, and created our own pattern designs in our woodland area.

The children worked together in small groups and used resources from nature, sticks, different coloured leaves, pine cones, conkers, stones and twigs were all used to create their pattern masterpieces!

We are delighted with how they turned out!

P4 Celebration of Learning

In February,  P4 invited their family and friends into their classroom, to give them an insight into what the children have been learning about so far this term.

The classroom was buzzing with enthusiastic voices proudly sharing their knowledge of : Multiplication strategies, Bonnie Prince Charlie’s escapades with his Jacobite followers, spelling activities, symmetry challenges, How to Write code on the computers, magnet facts at our science table, guided tours of our clay miniature Jacobite village, describing ourselves in French by playing Guess Who, looking at photographs of our Jacobite Jaunt, marvelling at our display of symmetrical targes, singing Jacobite songs and showing off Scottish dancing .. phew, I think we all went home for a rest!

Many parents commented on how impressed they were with the confidence the children showed, and that at each table the children’s knowledge was evident, as they described what they have been learning.

Excellent work P4, very proud 😀 Thanks also to Mme McGill for her help at the French table – Merci Beaucoup! 😀

P4 Christmas Fun

  • The P4 children wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported their Cosy Christmas Classroom, we raised the fantastic amount of £125.11 !!

The children have researched different charities, and decided by a majority vote which charities should benefit, namely SCIAF Real Gifts, where they purchased a pig, an emergency water supply and warm blankets for people in need, and a donation of £50 will also Continue reading “P4 Christmas Fun”

P4 Cosy Christmas Classroom

“It’s  beginning to look a lot like Christmas…”

The P4 classroom was transformed today as the children entertained their families with some beautiful singing, and a memorable presentation of the nativity story.

Next, in scenes reminiscent of a Christmas market (or the Boxing Day sales !), Malteser and Hot Chocolate Reindeer Cones, Truffles, Christmas Cards, Reindeer Food, Sweetie Raffle, Knitted Friends and Nativity Stories flew off the shelves, as the children confidently bought and sold their wares, calculating change from £1, £2, £5 and £10.

The ‘selfie with our elfie’ proved a popular choice, with Mr V joining in the fun too!

Thank you so much to everyone who came to support the children, we will calculate our profit and let you know as soon as possible!
