This week we were exploring Hallowe’en through art and technology. We looked at Co-Co Co-Operate and Curious Q while taking part in the tasks. We explored mixing different shades of the one colour, building towers to hold an apple, spooky symmetry and making skeletons from loose parts. We even managed to Dook for apples as well. Lots of fun was had by all.

Harvest Food
We are overwhelmed with your generosity this morning and so we are delighted to be handing over much needed food and toiletries to the Rhins Foodbank. Thank you again.
Harvest Church Service
All the boys and girls walked up to the High Kirk on a beautiful sunny morning. Each class performed a song in front of friends and family. Rev Stephen Ogston talked to the children about how far food travels from around the world so we can have it on our tables to eat. He also stressed that farmers from all over the world work hard so we can have lots of different variety of food to eat. Thank you to the P.7 readers this morning: Kai, Caitlin, Kyal, Elly and Neve. Many thanks to the parents who helped us walk up to the church as well.
Nursery’s Visit to the Shows
A Victorian Classroom for P3
What an exciting morning P3 had on Friday, 4th October. Miss Humes from Stranraer museum introduced the class to a Victorian Classroom. The boys and girls had the chance to dress up in waistcoats and pinafores. Then they had to line up outside the classroom and had their hands inspected for cleanliness. After marching into class, the class had a chance to use a slate and chalk for arithmetic and writing practise as well as using quills and ink wells to practise their handwriting. This was received very well. They could not believe how strict the teacher would be but luckily, she did not use the belt at any time. A dunce hat was used much to the excitement of the children. After that, the children took part in reading practise and eye strengthening tests. Each child had a chance to use a board to help them sit up straight. The class were shocked that the girls would be taught how to look after a home and learn how to sew while the boys got to learn woodwork and other exciting lessons. They also could not believe how strict the teacher was!
Overall the morning was really exciting, and the class learned a lot from their experience. We would like to thank Miss Humes for all her contributions and for making the morning such a memorable one.

Police Station Visit for P.1
Primary One had a super visit to Stranraer Police station on Tuesday morning as part of “People who help us in our community”. The fresh and breezy walk wakened us up and we were ready to learn by the time we arrived. We split into two groups and one group went with PC Allison to see the cells and learned all about the job of the Police looking after people who are arrested. They also saw all the CCTV cameras in actions around Stranraer. The other group talked to PC McFern about his work in Public Order and got to see him wear all his protective clothing. The two groups then swapped over. The children were able to tell me lots that they had learned when we returned to school. PC Allison will visit us on 5th November with a police car as we were unable to see the cars on this visit.
