P4/5 – Planting bulbs

Primary 4/5 are taking part in The Spring Bulb Project, where they will plant and look after a daffodil and crocus bulb throughout the year. This week we planted our own bulbs as well as four mystery bulbs that we will have to research what they are once they have flowered.  We have also planted twenty daffodil bulbs in the ground in the playground to look after too.

The children will have to water and monitor their own bulbs recording when they flower. We will also be recording the weather; temperature and rainfall from November through to March.

We are doing this experiment to collect data for The Eden Trust and the National Museum of Wales to understand how climate change is affecting our planet. Spring flowers are very sensitive to temperature change which is why we are using these types of flowers.

We will keep you updated on the progress of our bulbs!

P3/4 Activities

P3/4 have had great fun in the open area this week creating their own creatures out of playdough! They had to give their creature a name and list its habitat, diet and any special powers. This work followed on from Halloween where children enjoyed exploring the ‘Witch’s Cavern’, creating their own recipes and potions.

In art this week, we have been focusing on observational drawing of autumn leaves. We explored how water colour paints can be used to blend colours. The finished pictures look fantastic!

We have been working hard in class on the spelling of common words. The children have investigated the spelling of these through a variety of activities. They particularly enjoyed using the chalk pens, magnetic boards and sensory approaches to spelling. Keep up the good work at home too!

Numeracy in P4/5

Primary 4/5 are trying new and exciting ways to learn Numeracy. This week we took part in a decoding activity that included finding clues hidden around the classroom. We were trying to exercise our mental maths skills and increase our speed. We had to embody Co-Co Co-Operate during this task, making sure everyone took part and all ideas were heard.

We all enjoyed learning maths this way and hope to do more activities like this.

P3 – Hallowe’en

This week we were exploring Hallowe’en through art and technology. We looked at Co-Co Co-Operate and Curious Q while taking part in the tasks.  We explored mixing different shades of the one colour, building towers to hold an apple, spooky symmetry and making skeletons from loose parts. We even managed to Dook for apples as well.  Lots of fun was had by all.
