Pandamonium at Kirkcowan!

At long last, excitement was in the air in P3/4/5 today as the much awaited panda prizes arrived from the Glow Team. Back in December the pupils entered a competition to design a leaflet for Edinburgh Zoo to promote the arrival of Scotland’s two giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guan. The school heard the fantastic news in January that several pupils had been successful and had come runners up in the competition and that one of our pupils had also won First Prize! Such a big achievement to have so many winners from a small school in a national competition!

Below is a photograph of the overall winner with her cuddly panda and runners up with their T-shirts, along with their leaflet designs.

P3/4/5 Knights and Castles showcase and Galloway Falconry Display

On Wednesday 22nd February P3/4/5 entertained a large audience of parents and family members as they shared what they have learned from their Knights and Castles topic. The pupils also sang (and some acted!) a song about a handsome knight and set up activities for their parents to do based on the topic afterwards. Galloway Falconry arrived later and the pupils and parents had a chance to handle the birds of prey, including a white tailed sea eagle with an 8ft wingspan, falcon and owl. The visitors were a fantastic way to finish the topic. Below are photographs of work by the pupils displayed in the classroom and the falconry display.

Well done P3/4/5 what a lot of hard work and effort!

Masterclass Success!

The cookery masterclass, led by parent volunteers Steve Brown and Catrina Adams, was a huge hit for pupils throughout the whole school. The finale was the pupils prepared a buffet for all the volunteer helpers at the masterclasses (which have been running since January). The photograph shows the delicious sandwiches, finger food and cakes enjoyed by the helpers and very happy pupils with their certificates and chef hats. The next block of Masterclasses are coming soon and include golf, introduction to recorder, knitting and back by popular demand… cookery! Watch this space for more photographs.

Scots’ Afternoon

On Friday 27th January we celebtated Burns’ day by holding a Scottish afternoon for the whole School. P3-7 organised the afternoon and a full programme was delivered as can be seen above. Everyone had a thorourghly enjoyable time and it was evident the many talented individuals we have at Kirkcowan School.
