Children in Need 2021

November 11, 2021 by Mrs Gamble | Comments Off on Children in Need 2021

Children in Need is Friday 19th November. We have organised a dress down/ wear what you like day. So next Friday please come in your own clothes with a small donation of up to £1.  We would also like to run a competition and have 2 prizes; a Blush teddy and a Pudsey teddy.

To win these wonderful prizes we would like you to create your own eye patch for Pudsey. This can be creative as you like.  Please bring your eye patch to school on Friday 19th November and we will pick two winners.

Thank you,

Calside Pupil Council.

Learner Conferences November 2021

Unfortunately due to ongoing Covid mitigations, we still cannot welcome parents into the school. Therefore the November Learner Conferences will be held remotely, as we did in May. Parents should have received an email with a letter from the class teacher which outlines the available dates, and contact details so that parents can make arrangements with each class teacher. For ease, the letters can also be found below.

Learner conferences are an important part of a child’s learning journey: parents have also been emailed a help guide which explains how to get the most out of them. This can also be seen here: learning conversation guide for parents

Halloween at Calside Primary

On Friday 29th October 2021, pupils and teachers in Calside dressed up in spectacular costumes! We also had some spooky competitions, including an art competition! Primary 4 to Primary 7 had to design a costume for one of five teachers, while Nursery to Primary 3 designed a pumpkin.

Here were the Costume competition winners!

And here are the art competition winners!

Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee –
June 2022

Revised School Holiday And Session Dates 2021/22

Dear Parent/Carer

You will be aware that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in June next year.

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed, along with the other nations of the United Kingdom, the movement of the late May Bank Holiday in 2022 and the introduction of a Bank Holiday to mark the celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee on Thursday 2 June 2022.

As you are aware, Dumfries and Galloway does not have a late May Bank Holiday therefore we have written to the Scottish Government to request an additional day’s school closure which has now been accepted.

This does mean however that, to ensure schools are closed on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June, it has been necessary to draw a day from the forthcoming winter break, with pupils now returning on Friday 7 January instead of Monday 10 January 2022.

The school term and holiday dates page on the Council’s website have been updated:

https://www.dumgal.gov.uk/article/15239/School-term-and-holiday-dates

We would ask that if you have downloaded the pdf and/or i-calendar that you do so again to ensure you have the most up-to-date copy.

Return to School

All parents/carers should have received an email from the Director of Education last week. It can also be read here: https://supportdg.dumgal.gov.uk/schools-update?fbclid=IwAR29w4iGJaTHBbaV9YrudtD5e9DombvjpxvUPbEsu-oSYt36Q9UotCuDSLQ

This letter confirms that the health and safety arrangements in place in June will continue for at least the next 6 weeks. As such, the allocated gates/doors will continue to be in use on Thursday when the children return. Staff will be in the playground shortly ahead of the 9 a.m. bell in order to assist the children to get to the right place! Parents of Nursery and P1 only are able to come into the playground, and should be wearing a face covering when they are in school grounds. Nursery and P1 children should be escorted to their class door where staff will collect them. Unfortunately we continue with no parents able to come into the school building.

P1 children will start at 9.30 on Thursday as previously advised. This is to allow a smooth handover once the rest of the school are all settled in.

The nursery works have not been completed and therefore we continue with the school in considerable disarray. Parents and children should remain vigilant as to traffic.
