LOVELY LIBRARY LAUNCH

Over the past two years at Calside primary school the pupil council and Miss Brown have been working extremely hard to upgrade our old, dull and boring library into a new colourful, exciting and amazing place. The pupil council held a competition to see who would design our new library. They picked 3 winners and merged them all together; the winners were Kirstin Murray P7, Jemma Geddes P5, and Ethan Weir P3. Kirstin thought of a woodland theme, Jemma thought of a Charlie and the chocolate factory theme and Ethan thought of a space theme. Pupil council have ordered all the books into alphabetical order and they hope to keep it that way. The process was, first the children choose a new dark blue carpet for the space area, a turquoise colour for the woodland area and also purple carpet for the chocolate factory area. Then Mrs Geddes kindly helped out to paint the walls to match the theme, after that Miss Brown ordered book shelfs and other equipment for the library. Mr Jones made an excellent job building a space station for us and we are very grateful for all his hard work. The people in prison also made all the wooden ends for our library. Finally everything was organised and put into position for the grand opening.

During launch week we have lots of competitions and fun activities to do. Also parents and authors are coming in to read stories to us. On Monday we all got to dress up as our favourite book character. We would all like to say a massive thankyou to Miss Brown for all her hard work in giving us a library we are all looking forward to using for years to come.

Getting Fit

On Monday at assembly the CHAT group showed us some activities to get us fit. We went back to class and took part with the CHAT representative from each class leading. We all had a great time although we were out of breath towards the end.

Library launch

Miss Brown and the pupil council have been working really hard getting the new library finished off. The library will be officially open on the 4th of November. Each class will get a chance to have time in the library. The pupil council have arranged different activities throughout the week for each class. Please feel free to come in on the day and see our new fantastic library.

Guid Nychburris Football

It’s been a busy week at Calside with teams taking part in the annual Guid Nychburris football tournament. All teams played well and worked hard. They were excellent representatives for the school showing great teamwork and sportsmanship.

P5

Although the results didn’t go their way, the boys played really well: they never stopped running and were always encouraging each other. It was a really encouraging sign for their future football tournaments at Calside. Well done!

P6

A massive thank you to Mark Kerr who took the boys along to the tournament, unfortunately they missed out on the semi finals on goal difference. Again these boys showed great sportsmanship, team work and desire. Well done!

P7

The P7 boys along with two P6 boys took part in the tournament. Scott Hodgins kindly offered to take the boys along so again a massive thank you goes to him too. The boys again showed excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and desire. They won the tournament on penalties and what a great way for the P7 boys to end their time at Calside.

Girls

We had a fantastic uptake in the number of girls who wanted to take part this year and as a result we were able to enter two teams. Thanks goes to the hard work of Suzanne and Rachael who have coached the girls throughout the year. Both teams did really well with one just missing out on the semi finals. Well done girls!

Hockey

On Thursday the 6th of June Calside took part in a hockey tournament at the King George Arena. We competed against teams from Cargenbridge, Caerlaverock and Brownhall. The team showed a great attitude and worked well together. One team finished 2nd and the other finished 4th. Well done to all who took part.

Calside General Elections 2019

And the winner is……

on Wednesday the 23rd of January P5/6/7 held an election to see who would be the winning party. 13 parties took part and had the chance to deliver their speeches on what their party promises were. Other parties were then allowed to challenge their promises by asking questions.

After the speeches all the children had the chance to vote for their favourite party using our ballot papers. We had to make sure we put a cross in the box.

After the votes were counted we found out who was the winning party and the winners were the D.I.S.C.O party.  They got to make a winning speech to remind the pupils of their promises. Party leader  Skye said ‘she didn’t expect this and that the party will prove they were the correct choice’ after winning the vote.

Rocket launch

As part of our space topic Primary 7 launched rockets, we had to work out the best angle to launch our rocket in order to get to travel the furthest distance. We recorded our data and worked as a team. IMG_6905
