Getting Fit

On Monday at assembly the CHAT group showed us some activities to get us fit. We went back to class and took part with the CHAT representative from each class leading. We all had a great time although we were out of breath towards the end.

Library launch

Miss Brown and the pupil council have been working really hard getting the new library finished off. The library will be officially open on the 4th of November. Each class will get a chance to have time in the library. The pupil council have arranged different activities throughout the week for each class. Please feel free to come in on the day and see our new fantastic library.

Awesome Art

On Thursday the house captains designed boards for the inter-house art. The theme was Disney with friendship. The boards were Lion King by P4, Jungle book P4/5 , Finding Nemo P5 and Toy Story P6. We used art supplies that were donated as we were learning to up cycle old unwanted belongings.

Super Summer BBQ

On Saturday at Calside Primary School P7 hosted their own Summer BBQ with the help of the teachers. We organised lots of stalls and activities for people to do. We had face painting, sweet pong, sponge throwing, beat the goalie, tombola, guess the teddies birthday, guess where the teddy went on holiday, guess how many sweeties in the jar, cake stall and QOS raffle. We all had a great day and we raised lots of money which will go towards our end of year trip. Thanks to all who donated prizes or cakes. Also a massive thanks to all the teachers, staff and parents who gave up their time to help us.

New House Captains

On Wednesday we performed our speeches for house captains. Everyone was really nervous but gave great speeches. These are the winners for each of the house.

Guid Nychburris Football

It’s been a busy week at Calside with teams taking part in the annual Guid Nychburris football tournament. All teams played well and worked hard. They were excellent representatives for the school showing great teamwork and sportsmanship.

P5

Although the results didn’t go their way, the boys played really well: they never stopped running and were always encouraging each other. It was a really encouraging sign for their future football tournaments at Calside. Well done!

P6

A massive thank you to Mark Kerr who took the boys along to the tournament, unfortunately they missed out on the semi finals on goal difference. Again these boys showed great sportsmanship, team work and desire. Well done!

P7

The P7 boys along with two P6 boys took part in the tournament. Scott Hodgins kindly offered to take the boys along so again a massive thank you goes to him too. The boys again showed excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and desire. They won the tournament on penalties and what a great way for the P7 boys to end their time at Calside.

Girls

We had a fantastic uptake in the number of girls who wanted to take part this year and as a result we were able to enter two teams. Thanks goes to the hard work of Suzanne and Rachael who have coached the girls throughout the year. Both teams did really well with one just missing out on the semi finals. Well done girls!

Hockey

On Thursday the 6th of June Calside took part in a hockey tournament at the King George Arena. We competed against teams from Cargenbridge, Caerlaverock and Brownhall. The team showed a great attitude and worked well together. One team finished 2nd and the other finished 4th. Well done to all who took part.

Spain v Slovenia

On Tuesday we had the opportunity to go and watch the Under 20 world hockey championships at the Dumfries Ice Bowl. The game was between Spain and Slovenia. We were supporting Spain who won. After a very exciting game which ended 3-3 the game went to a penalty shootout which Spain won 1-0. Lucas Gibson in P2 got to present the man of the match award. Despite being very confused about the rules the children had a great time and many said they would go again. So for any parents interested the under 20 championships will be on for the remainder of the week and also look out for the local team Solway Sharks who play at the Ice Bowl.

Olympian visit

On Monday we had a guest at our assembly. A local Olympian Courtney Scriven came in to talk about her sport of Boccia. She has represented the region at the special olympics where she has won medals. The school had a chance to ask questions and see her equipment that she uses.

They took part in the quiz at Troqueer Primary School competing against other schools from Dumfries. They answered questions on different countries who are members of the European Union.
