Happy Halloween!

In Maths this week we have been learning about right angles. Ask us to show you some right angles we can see at home to test us! We have also been learning about compass points and directions. We drew compass roses in the playground and tried to make them accurate and point in the correct direction.

We have been writing scary stories in preparation for Halloween, we focused on using adjectives to provide good descriptions of characters and settings.

Do do you like our pumpkins? We made these in art and learned about blending colours of paint to create light and shade

A busy first week back!

Every day in maths we have been developing our speed and accuracy when solving addition and subraction sums mentally.

We have also started a new class novel – The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark and we are really enjoying it so far. Today we were using the story to develop our comprehension skills. Ask us about Plop!

In science, we have been learning about different types of energy. We have been sorting objects depending on what kind of energy they give us and how we use them.

In maths we have also been learning about data and the information it gives us. We have been applying our 5x table skills to count tally marks and we have conducted our own surveys and used our information to create tally charts and bar graphs. We are now working on how to interpret the information displayed in a table or graph.

Homework for week beginning 21.10.19

Dear Parent/ Carer

This term in Primary 3 we will be trying a different approach to homework, each week a grid like the one below will be posted on the class blog. If you have any questions or require a paper copy instead, please let Mrs Brown or Mrs Hallahan know.

Until we are fully up and running with the lending scheme for reading books, each child has been given the book home that they have been reading in class. Please see the reading diary for more information.

Sumdog logins have also been given to each child, please check red folders for these.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.

Mrs Brown and Mrs Hallahan

3B our last week of Term 1

This week we tried out a new Literacy morning task that involved making up as many words as we could using 16 random letters from the alphabet. It was a nice way to warm our brains up in the morning and get us thinking about spelling.

We also got to visit the Purple Wing to see models of the Titanic that Primary 7 had been making. We were really excited and especially loved the ones that were made out of lego. We learned a little bit of information about what happened to the ship.

We have been playing a competitive game of football during our PE lessons this week. As part of this we have been working on our speed and accuracy of dribbling and shooting.

Finally, we have been enjoying sharing news and information with each other. Lots of children have been bringing things in from home to share with us. This week we have heard all about vegetables grown in a Grandpa’s garden, we’ve seen newspapers from WW2, we’ve seen some foreign coins and we’ve stories read to us that have been written at home. It has been lots of fun and we are hoping to do some more of this after the holidays.

Have a great week off. See you all at the start of Term 2!

3B weekly overview

This week we have been working hard to read and spell words containing the ‘ee’ and ‘igh’ sounds. Here are some photos of us busy learning…

Some of us took this learning further by searching for more ‘igh’ sounds in books using our new magnifying glasses. We then had the task of writing them in alphabetical order.

In Numeracy, we have been learning different strategies to help us develop our addition skills. This week we have been learning to add across the decade (eg. 35+7) and we’ve been revising some of our previous learning.

We are going to be fitting some Mindful Minutes into our week from now on and we started today by using the Cosmic Kids website. The children all participated really well and the classroom had a lovely, calm feel to it during this time. We are looking forward to our next Mindful Minutes session.

Finally, we took part in the Harvest assembly on Thursday and did a great job of performing our song, Harvest Samba, to the rest of the school. Thank you for all the kind donations you sent in. They have now been distributed to people in our community.
