3B Scottish Wildlife

Our topic this term is Scottish Wildlife. We have been learning about animals and their habitats. We are particularly interested in the damage that is being done to animal habitats because of litter etc.

Today we learned how to use a search engine to find information. We really enjoyed using the laptops and looking at lots of different websites and images. Our focus today was the Scottish Wildcat.

Here are some pictures of us conducting our research…

P3B week ending 27th February 2020

We came back refreshed after our little holiday and have been working very hard this week.

Here is a little overview of what we have been doing…

We have continued to learn about fractions this week and enjoyed getting to use some of the resources from the fractions box. We were investigating fractions of different sizes and how we put them together to make a whole. We are beginning to learn about simple fractions of a quantity.

During our topic time this week we were put into trios and learned which Scottish animal would be our focus animal during this topic. Mrs Brown showed us how to search for images using a search engine and we created a class flip chart page of all the animals we will be learning about in 3B. We then drew and painted our own larger scale drawings our own animal.

P3 Litter Pick

We are learning about Scottish animals and their habitats.  We want to help protect their habitats so we decided to go on a mission.

Today we went out to the playground to pick up litter because we know that litter is harmful to animals. We found lots of rubbish, especially sweet wrappers. We put a tally mark on the chart every time we found a piece of litter. Overall we had 436 tally marks, meaning that we found 436 pieces of litter in our playground. That is approximately one piece of litter per pupil.

Primary 3 were horrified to find so much litter, especially considering how harmful this can be for animals. We are determined to make a change at Redwell.

Term 3 update

Term 3 got off to a really busy start with our Great Scots sharing of learning event. Thank you for all your support.

Here is some information about what we will be learning this term as well as some other information we thought might be useful.

Important information

This term P.E. is on Thursdays and Fridays. On these days it would be helpful for children to attend school in polo shirts rather than shirts and ties. Jewellery is also discouraged on these days for safety reasons.

In order to stay hydrated throughout the day, children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school with water in it to be used in class.

Learning Context for this Term…

Scottish Wildlife

This term we will be learning about wildlife found around Scotland. We will be learning about these animals and their habitats and what we can do to help keep their habitats safe.

This topic will allow opportunities for cross curricular learning as we will be using technology to research, writing fact files and creating graphs and tally charts based on playground observations.
