Scottish Landmarks

Today P2S found out their new context for learning – Scottish Landmarks, but Miss Stark didn’t make it easy for them!

The children had to work with a partner to put together lots of different puzzle pieces. Each pair had a different picture and the children had to figure out what all the pictures had in common!

The children took a look around at all of the different finished pictures. They had lots of ideas for what our new context might be!

On Monday Elvis asked us to sort through some different Christmas objects investigating whether or not they were magnetic. The children had lots of fun carrying out this activity and we learned some information about magnets and forces. We love science!

Our trays were full of lots of Christmas things all made of different materials.

Christmas Tree Cup Challenge!

Today Elvis challenged us to work as a team and build a Christmas tree using green plastic cups. We had lots of great ideas during our brainstorm session and we tried lots of different ways to make it work.

It was quite tricky because we each had to use all 50 cups!

The green group worked so well as a team and managed to complete the challenge first.

To make it even more difficult Miss Stark told the class to try again – but this time they weren’t allowed to touch the cups with their hands! The children very quickly came up with a number of solutions.

P2S Christmas Party

The boys and girls had an amazing time at their Christmas party on Friday! Thank you Mr Roberts for teaching us some Scottish country dances. Here’s a clip of us doing the Virginia Reel –

Jingle Bell Challenge

P2S were faced with another challenge from Elvis on Thursday! We had to try and find a way to stop Santa’s bells from making a jingling noise!

'We put some sparkly pipe cleaners into the bell to stop it from ringing so much then we put it inside a Christmas bauble. You can still hear it a little bit' - Mason and Finlay

The children came up with some wonderful and creative ideas to tackle this challenge and they had lots of fun doing it!

Paper Chain Challenge

Today Elvis the Elf set us another challenge! We each had to make a paper chain using only one piece of paper. The person who could make the longest chain was the winner!

The children brainstormed with a partner trying to think of different ways they could make their paper chain longer than everyone else’s.

All of the children worked really hard to try and make their paper chain the longest!

In the end, our winner was Lacey!

"I had to do some problem solving and i noticed that when I cut the paper thinner it meant I could have more loops. But I had to be quick because we didn't have lots of time!"

LEGO Marble Maze!

Elvis set the class a design challenge today! We had to plan and create a Lego marble maze. The children worked very well with their partners and took their time to solve the design problem. The results were fantastic and the children were able to identify their own areas for improvement! Hopefully Elvis tells Santa what a wonderful job we all did!

We tested one another's finished product and gave constructive feedback.

Special Delivery!

P2S had an extra special delivery this morning all the way from the North Pole! We are super excited to welcome one of Santa’s elves into our classroom!

Everyone meet Elvis the Elf!

We have been learning about tally marks in our numeracy lessons and we used this knowledge to decide upon a name for our Elf!

We came up with 6 different names that we might like to name our elf.
