ASL Teachers

Within the Huntly Network, Support for Learning Teachers have 5 key roles to ensure our young learners are provided with relevant, appropriate and timely support. These roles are outlined below:

Direct teaching – a planned approach to working with identified pupils with the aim to meet the targets agreed within the Individual Education Plan (IEP) / Individual Learning Plan (ILP). These direct teaching sessions can take place within or out with the classroom context, depending on the task and needs of the child.

Co-operative teaching between the Class Teacher and Support for Learning Teacher which takes place in the classroom context to ensure an inclusive environment is created and maintained. The skills of teachers should be shared to ensure that the range of pupils’ learning styles/needs is addressed within the classroom setting.

Consultancy – Support for Learning teachers should also provide advice, support and strategies for colleagues which aim to assist them in planning for the needs of all children in their class.

Staff development – Support for Learning Teachers should provide/deliver training on learning and teaching methods and strategies for addressing a range of pupil needs.
