Lilian Ross Scots poetry

Recently P6/7  have been learning about Scots poetry.  We had a visit from Lilian Ross.  We had  to learn poems off by heart. The names of the poems were Tae a Spider and Doctor Fa. We  had to speak Doric while speaking  it by heart. We also had to write a short poem about a different animal such as tae a parrot , dog , cat etc.

The Battle of Prestonpans

In our class we have been learning about Prince Charlie and the Battle of Prestonpans. Here is the story: Prince Charlie and his men marched through Edinburgh to Prestonpans. The Redcoats marched from the other side of Edinburgh set up cannons and went to sleep in the tents. Luckily a farmer came and told the Jacobites a way round the bog. The Jacobites aimed the cannons facing the Redcoats. When the Redcoats woke up they were shocked and nearly all of them died.

P1T and P1R Class Work

This term Primary1T have been learning about Scotland and it’s weather. They have drawn and painted “Wee reed motors” which was the poem they received home to recite. The P1s  have drawn pictures of Robert Burns and made kilts out of paper. They have also made little Scottish flags. One of the pupils told us, “We have been learning about the weather in Scotland”.

P4/5’s Poem

There has been a comment about P4/5’s poem. They said they would like to hear our poem. This is our poem.

                                                     First catch your Haggis

Through the heather through the glen, go the highland hunting men. Wrapped warm in kilts gainst winter cold, only the bravest and the bold. For who knows where the haggis hides, amids these frozen mountain sides. In the loch with neeps and tatties, or lurking with the sheep and ratties. They seak him here they seak him there, but none can find the haggis lair. This cheiften of the pudding race, is lying low without a trace.

James Rizzi pictures by P4/5

P4/5 have been learning about an artist called James Rizzi in art class recently. He was a famous artist who died just before Christmas. He painted buildings, cars, aeroplanes and much more. He did pop art. Pop art is a style of painting that is more like cartoons than real things. He drew people. On his people he would give them big eyes. We painted people in class using the James Rizzi style. Now we have a big display. Some have green skin others have blue, purple, yellow, orange or red.

Lendrick Muir P7 Trip

Most P7s will be going to Lendrick Muir, which is a residential trip to central Scotland (Kinross area, then to Edinburgh on the last day.)

There was a meeting for the Mums and/or Dads to attend, the children could also attend if they liked. We received a kit list, planner for the days we are there, pictures of the activities and a plan of the building.

Lendrick Muir has many activites, such as inflateables, bungee fun, rocket launch and even watersports. We are also having a cheesy disco!

All the P7s that are going are looking forward to the trip. It is a little bit like the P6s’ trip to Alltnachrice which most of the children attended last year.
