Primary 4 News

Primary 4 have been learning all about the human body.  We can label different parts of the heart, digestive system and the brain.  In writing we have focussed on imaginative writing and looked at the ingredients required for a story.  We worked with a partner to create contrasting characters and also learned how to make a speech mark sandwich.

In maths we linked our learning of division to help us with our work on fractions.  We have also learned about measuring and have been discussing weight, area and length.

On our trip to Montrose Basin we searched for a range of pond and sea life.  We wish you all a lovely summer and are excited to move to P5 in August.

Primary 3 News

This term we have been learning about water and the water cycle.  We worked in groups to design posters using the words: evaporation, condensation and precipitation.  We also found out about the main organs within our bodies, what they do and where they are found.

In maths we have been investigating fractions and can now work out fractions of an amount.  In writing we have looked at the features of instructions, we did this by looking at examples and highlighting with pens (great fun).  We then made crispy cakes and wrote down the instructions, making sure we had used the correct features.  Our learning was fun and tasty!

we have really enjoyed P3 and are looking forward to starting P4 after the holidays.

Primary 2 News

We have been learning to read and write large numbers.  We have found the place value of digits in large numbers.  we have also been working with money and can find total amounts and how much change we get back after buying things.  During our trip to Crombie Country Park we took part in a bug hunt and made some tally charts of insects and bugs which we then used to make our own bar graphs once we were back in class.

We have been learning about the life cycle of caterpillars and reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.  We have also investigated the human body and can name and show where some bones and organs are found in our own bodies.  Lots of our writing this term was focussed around our caterpillar book study.

Primary 1 News

This term we have been learning about sharing groups of objects.  We loved using the dinosaurs to help us make groups.  We have also made good progress in our reading.  We know this from looking at our hot and cold tasks.

In health, we enjoyed learning about the body.  We can name some organs and know what they do to help our body.  We are excited to be challenged even more in Primary 2.

On the way home they sailed into a massive storm which contained megladons. The storm thrashed them about the boat which tipped from side to side in the wind. The boat was slowly being chomped up by the waves. Nia cried, “Gizmo, what are we going to do?”

Suddenly,  the boat crashed into land they ran from the wrecked boat and thought they were safe. But they ran into scorpions and spiders and had to run from that next danger whilst the scorpions and spiders chased them. They swam to the next island which had an active volcano. They stared at the volcano for a while then went searching for some food and shelter. They met an explorer that welcomed them with lots of bananas which made them very happy. “What are you doing here?” asked the explorer.

“Oooo-aa,” said Nia.

“Don’t you know the volcano is going to erupt?” said the explorer.

“Oh no!” said Harambe, “we better leave now.” “You probably have another 5 days,” said the explorer. The monkeys started to panic. “We need a raft now!” said Gizmo and that’s what they did.

The volcano was about to erupt. Harambe and Gizmo went on a hunt for supplies to build a small boat and oars. They found long, thin branches to build the oars and another old boat which they repaired with laves and rusty old metal which was in the water. As the volcano was erupting they built their boat just in time and sailed away. They got back to the jungle and went back to their families to live a peaceful life.

Gizmo fell out of the boat because he was sitting on the edge while massive waves were furiously going past. Gizmo was really scared as he was dragged away by the waves but he was washed into a cave with gold and diamonds in it. He collected some of the treasure and waited to be saved. Haramabe had jumped out to try to save Gizmo and was also dragged into a cave but it was the wrong one. Eventually the y found each other and tried to head back to the insecure boat. Harambe and Nia were panicking and got the inflatable ring from the bottom of the boat. They threw it to Gizmo and Hrambe and they kicked hard so they slowly moved closer to the boat.

Gizmo was panicking in the water but the donut was keeping him afloat. He hooked the boat with his tail but he couldn’t get up onto it. Nia told him to take deep breaths and not to panic. Gizmo swam towards shore and scurried up a tree. Nia and Harambe deflated the big fluffy pink inflatable donut to keep Gizmo warm because the water had been freezing. It was lucky the donut was fluffy to help warm Gizmo up. Gizmo survived his disaster and they all had a party to celebrate that the donut had saved him from drowning.

On the way home everyone had a big panic because the boat had run out of fuel. The boat was rocking furiously from side to side and everyone was screaming louder and louder. The strong, towering tide was coming in and was bringing the boat to shore in the massive waves. All the animals, big and small, made their way off the boat onto the huge Isle of Madagascar.

Gizmo and Harambe went to look for food for everyone whilst Nia took charge and decide to build a brilliant raft. The other animals collected supplies like leaves, vines and wood. When Gizmo and Haramabe came back and all the supplies were there, they worked extremely fast and soon the raft was finished. They got onto the raft and pushed it into the water and started to sail away. Suddenly Gizmo fell out of the raft because he was messing around with Harambe , pushing each other to the limits. It looked like Gizmo was going to get eaten by a prowling shark nearby but Harambe came to the rescue buy punching the shark on the nose and pulling Gizmo back on board. “Thank goodness Gizmo is back on board, “said Nia. “Let’s go home, we have enough supplies to get us there.” The raft was racing along and the animals all felt delighted that they were heading home. They could see Africa and were excited to get off the raft. “We’re back!” declared Gizmo as the raft reached shore. All the animals ran off into the jungle and after that tremendous adventure their friendship grew and hopefully will never end.

There was a storm. The rain was beating down loudly on the boat and there were enormous bolts of lightning. One struck the boat and an oil drum caught fire. There was a colossal explosion and some of the animals were hurt. The smoke was thick and the monkeys were shouting each other’s names. The smoke cleared and Nia wasn’t there. Harambe and Gizmo are shouting loudly for each other as the boat keeps rocks violently and furiously. They found each other at last and grabbed onto the decking. They heard a faint cry- it sounded like Nia- but they couldn’t make out what the voice was saying. They got closer to the edge of the boat and there was Nia struggling furiously to stay afloat while she was screaming at the top of her lungs, “Help, help, I can’t swim! Help! Help!”

Nia’s arms were flailing desperately. Gizmo and the pandas grab Harambe to stop him leaping into the harsh water for his screaming sister. A tiger ran to tell the monkey driving the boat to slam the brakes on. The boat stopped slowly but surely. By the time it stopped they couldn’t see Nia anymore because there was a giant rock between Nia and the boat. A soaking Nia clambered onto the slippery rock. Most of the animals scrambled inside the boat for anything they could use to help Nia. Suddenly, there were yelps of fear from the animals that had stayed outside. A huge wave had hit Nia and the rock she was standing on. Now she was back in the water.

They now had 3 strategies as a rescue plan, a thin rope, a crocodile who volunteered to dive in and grab her gently in his mouth or an elephant’s trunk to stretch down her for her to clamber up. So first she tried to clamber onto the trunk but that failed. Then the monkeys tried to pull her in with the thin rope but that didn’t work either because the rope snapped in two. The crocodile decide to jump in and caught her in his mouth. Thankfully, this worked. The elephants stretched their long trunks down and scooped the crocodile and Nia up to the safety of the deck. After they were on board, they carried on their journey to their new home in Africa with no further catastrophies.

A Little Monkeys Tail (Part 8 by P2)

All the animals stood by the gate.  Harambe pressed 2482.  the door opened, the animals went in.

Something came out of the dark shadows.  a ghost in a black suit who said ‘thank you, I’m free.  I know where Nia is, follow me.’

The people who took Nia were poachers who wanted to sell Nia.  the ghost led them to Nia.  When the poachers were asleep, the animals crept out quietly and escaped.  they all got on a boat which took them to Africa.

A Little Monkeys Tail (Part 7 by P5)

Harambe and Gizmo entered the cave but found that Nia was not there.   Instead, on the shelves of the cave were row upon row of test tubes marked with the poison symbol.  The monkeys were terrified and hurried back out of the cave and noticed that the truck with Nia in it was hurtling towards them.   They quickly jumped over to the side and hid in the bushes beside the road.

The  explorer jumped out of the truck and went to the back of the vehicle to unlock Nia.  All of a sudden Harambe whistled and a swarm of monkeys, elephants, tigers and hippos stampeded out of the forest.

The biggest elephant picked up the explorer and carried him above his head towards the cave…
