‘Sharing the Learning’

We are delighted to offer all nursery parents the opportunity to attend our ‘Sharing the Learning’ evening on Tuesday 13th September from 6.30pm until 7.30pm.  This will be an adults only event and will involve a presentation explaining how to build upon learning at home.  This was an area that nursery parents were most unsure of in recent audits.  Parents will also be given their account details for our secure online learning portal.

As new information will be shared we recommend that all returning parents and new families attend.  Please look out for the letter in your child’s tray this week.

Physical Friday

We will be focusing on physical skills every Friday.  Today we developed our skills in throwing, catching and kicking, tried to balance and climb, used tennis rackets and pedaled frantically in the playground! It was lots of fun and has given the nursery staff ideas for future physical development.  We definitely have a few Andy Murray’s in the making! 🙂

Our tricky problem

Some of the morning boys and girls have a big problem….they can’t agree what type of bird is in the animal box.  They looked on the iPad at photographs of big birds, went to the library to look in books and even asked the janitor!  Olivia says, ‘it’s actually not an ostrich!’  They decided to draw pictures of the bird and stick them up on the noticeboard to get all the mummies and daddies to help them solve their tricky problem!   If you look closely at the photographs you will be able to see the toy bird that is causing such a fuss!  Please offer any suggestions by reply to this post.  The children said they wanted it solved by tomorrow! 🙂

Nursery Trip

We are delighted to be offering the children and their families the opportunity to participate in our annual autumn/getting to know you trip on Thursday 6th October to Drum Castle.   These trips have been hugely successful in the past and involve children and their families getting to know the new staff, new children and new families.

Please look out for the letter about this in your child’s tray.

Thank you.

Cults Nursery Development

The nursery development plan for 2016/2017 is now available for parents to read.  It is situated on the small table outside the nursery door.  Please take a moment to read this to familiarise yourself with the priorities and planned development for nursery this year.  We would welcome comments from parents on the parent comment sheet at the rear of the folder.  Our priorities this year will be child-led planning and the use of the Interactive Learning Diaries.

Website of the week

This week we are continuing to develop our skills in counting using the interactive whiteboard.  The game we have been focusing on this week is a matching game.  We have to try and match the number of ladybird spots to the leaves.

Please click here to try it and then click on matching.  It might be best to start with numbers to 5.

If ‘Website of the week’ is something you and your child have enjoyed please let me know by commenting on this post.  If it proves to be popular I can try uploading one website a week.  🙂

Thank you,

Mrs Duncan.

Recycling

Many of us were very interested in the recycling books that Murray had brought in to share with his friends.  Today we helped our lovely janitor Frank to recycle some of the school rubbish.  We helped him to recycle a huge trolley of cardboard by sorting it into the correct bin.  We shared our own experiences of recycling at home too.

Early Literacy skills

Many of us have been showing a strong interest in using drawing and craft materials both indoors and outdoors.  This is a crucial early literacy skill that we are learning to develop.   It helps us discover that print has meaning, helps us to develop a plan – what will I draw or stick first and, develops our fine motor skills.

Our slide!

The morning boys worked together to make a slide for the balance log in the garden.  They persevered with challenges when it kept collapsing and worked well as a team by sharing their ideas.  They drew a plan using chalk to help them decide what it should look like.  They decided that the slide must have a side to it so ‘you don’t fall out.’  They kept themselves safe by choosing to wear hard helmets! 🙂
