Talking tub

We have been exploring our feelings about going to Primary 1 through the use of a talking tub.  We looked at different school items and spoke about the types of activities we were looking forward to.  Lots of us are excited about having lunch and playing in the playground.  A few of us were a bit worried about leaving our mummies and daddies.  We will continue to work on this.

Mud, glorious mud!

Although it was not raining this afternoon, we had great fun playing in the puddles that had been growing all week.  We experimented with different depths as we filled containers and holes with water and then investigated whether they were deep enough to go over our wellies.  A super, muddy, outdoor afternoon!

Pizza Recipe

Ingredients

  • Mini wholemeal wraps (1 per child)
  • Grated cheese
  • Jar of passata
  • chopped cooked ham
  • Selection of chopped vegetables.  We used peppers, sweetcorn and cherry tomatoes.

Spread the wrap with the passata.  Add your toppings.  Grill or oven bake for 5-10 minutes!  Delicious!

We would love to see photos of you if you make them at home!

Pizza – am class

We have been asking for healthy pizza for snacks for a few weeks and  were delighted to have them today.  We were responsible for making our own pizzas and were able to make our own selections for our toppings.  They were delicious!

Games and turn taking

The afternoon boys and girls are currently very interested in playing physical games.  They regularly request or instigate games of football, races, hide and seek, and duck, duck, goose.  This has encouraged the development of turn taking skills, team work and acceptance when not being first.  This has been an important learning curve for all of the children.

They have also been learning to become more responsible for the resources they require for these games.

Dens – am nursery

The morning nursery have been very interested in making dens indoors and outdoors.  They have been developing their skills in sharing their ideas, working as part of a team and problem solving.  Many of them have also been developing their skills in using hammers, nails, string and rope.  They tried and tested a range of methods to make their den strong and were keen to develop their own role-play scenarios once their dens were completed.

Growth

We have been showing an interest in the growing flowers in the nursery garden.  We decided to plant our own.  We had lots of fun planting our own sunflower seeds and learned how to be responsible by taking care of them.  We spoke in great detail about what the seed might need to help it grow and were delighted when it started to sprout through the soil.

The life-cycle of a butterfly.

We have been learning about the growth of living things over the past few weeks.  Many of you will see evidence of this on the ILDs.

We carefully fed caterpillars and took care of them when they were in their cocoons.  We waited patiently for them to emerge from their cocoons as butterflies and were delighted when this happened.  Lots of us asked complex questions to find out more and took turns listening to our friends as we spoke about the butterflies we observed.

We extended this learning in greater depth by painting, reading stories, completing puzzles and exploring minibeasts in the sand, water and playdough.  We have also been hunting for minibeasts outside.

Yesterday we released our beautiful butterflies into the forest.  We were very, very excited!
