Little Scientists

We continue to be very interested in ice both indoors and outdoors.  This week we have been making our own ice in a variety of containers and experimenting with it in the water tray.  We have been using the words ‘melt’, ‘ice’ ‘frozen’ ‘cold’ and ‘hot’ in our play.  We have been finding out how we can make the ice melt quickly by adding hot or cold water, bashing it and squeezing it in our hands.

Happy Birthday Rabbie Burns!

We enjoyed celebrating Rabbie Burn’s birthday last week!  We tried haggis, neeps and tatties for snack, made tartan and took part in Scottish country dancing.  We have also been dancing to Scottish music  with our friends.  Please look on the ILD’s to see this in action!

Granny Bee’s Visit

Finlay’s Granny, Granny Bee came to visit us in her nursery.  Granny Bee keeps bees and Finlay was eager for her to tell the boys and girls all about it.  We all listened intently and were eager to find out about bee-keeping.  She even let us try on some special parts of her bee outfit that keep her safe.  The nursery staff hope that this visit will make us less worried when seeing bees in the garden!

A huge thank you to Finlay and Granny Bee! 🙂

Singing

The afternoon boys and girls were delighted to have a visit from Alec’s Grandma on Wednesday.  She played the piano and helped the children learn lots of new songs.  Alec was very proud to have her at nursery.  Thank you very much Alec and Alec’s Grandma!

Exploring ice and frost

We have been showing an interest in the changing weather outside particularly when it is icy and frosty.  We continue to enjoy playing in all weathers every day and have been eager to collect ice when playing.  We will be doing a mini topic on weather over the next few weeks.

Cults nursery Supermarket

The boys and girls decided that they would like to turn the role-play area into a supermarket.  They have been having lots of fun exploring how shops can help us and have created their own dramatic stories.  The role-play shop has naturally encouraged the development of lots of early numeracy and literacy skills with the children involved in lots of counting and writing.  They even made their own signs and prices for the shop! 😀
