Week beginning 19.9.16

children

Please remember to check bookbags every night and remove any notes, small sound booklets and letters from the office.  Thank you for helping your child (and staff!) by naming water bottles, snack pots and jackets.

This week we will be going to Kincorth library on Tuesday afternoon. If you are able to accompany us as an adult helper between 2pm and 3pm, please let one of the P1 teachers know.

We have gym on Thursday. If you have a daughter, it is a very good idea to avoid dressing her in tights and pinafores on gym days! Please make sure your child has a gym kit, with their name on it.

On Thursday afternoon we will be going down to the hall to participate in a Road Safety Magic Show.

School is closed on Friday 23rd and Monday 26th due to the September long weekend. We return on Tuesday 27th.

Reading – Your child will receive some new reading books this week. It would be extremely helpful if you could work with your child for a short time each night.

If the reading book has words please support your child to read the text. Let them try to read it independently and encourage them to point to the words as they are reading. If they are unsure, say the first sound for them, draw their attention to letters they recognise along with the overall shape of the word or sound it out completely if necessary. Try matching the words from their pots with the words on the page and play games like – point to the word that says…

If the book has no text, the children have heard the extended story in class. Using the picture books is an opportunity for the children to recall the main parts of the story and work on their oral skills. Encourage your child to talk through the story by looking at the pictures and discuss what’s happening. Have a look at any words in the word pot and see if your child can find the characters in the book. Practising these words in the pot will help your child become familiar with the overall look and shape of each word. It won’t be long before these words will start to appear in their reading books, so any practice you do with them will be of real benefit.

Common Words – I and in. Homework will be given out on a Monday and should be completed for the Thursday. Please see your child’s ‘Common Word Book’ for more information.

Phonics – This week we will be consolidating s, a, t, i, p and n and will be doing some checks to see how well the children can identify these first 6 sounds. We will also being using these sounds to make 2 and 3 letter words. We will also introduce c, k.  There will be a new word making job in their Home/School book on Thursday.

Maths – Number work, puzzles and counting for 0-10 and the correct formation of 7 and 8.

Have you seen our blog?

We update our class blog throughout the week with photos, information and plans.  We are keen to use it as one of the tools to help ensure we maintain close links between home and school, so would be interested to see who uses it.

If you are using this blog, please leave a comment by clicking on the ‘Leave a Comment’ tab below.

Week beginning 5.9.16

children

This is the first week of full-time school for our P1s.  Children can stay for free school dinners or bring a packed lunch.  If you would like to take them home for lunch then please collect them from the infant door (the one they line up at) at 12 noon and return them for the 1pm bell.  Home time is at 3pm but we will open the doors a few minutes early to try and reduce the number of children exiting the building all at once.

Reading – Your child will receive some new reading books this week. It would be extremely helpful if you could work with your child for a short time each night.

Although these first books have no text, the children have heard the extended story in class.  Using the picture books is an opportunity for the children to recall the main parts of the story and work on their oral skills.  Encourage your child to ‘read’ the story by looking at the pictures and discuss what’s happening. Common Words as and at. Homework will be given out on a Monday and should be completed for the Thursday.  Please see your child’s ‘Common Word Book’ for more information.

Phonics – This week we will be practising the letters i and p, as well as consolidating s, a, t.  There will be the sound job in their H/S book.

Maths – Number work, puzzles and counting for 0-10 and the correct formation of 4 and 5.

Week beginning 29.08.16

children

The children are continuing to settle into class and have adapted well to all the new routines and responsibilities.

Please can we ask that all clothing and equipment is clearly named, including water bottles, jackets and shoes.

Things are beginning to settle down and our timetable is almost organised.

Music is on a Tuesday with Mr Smith.

Science is on a Wednesday with Mrs Will.

Gym will probably be on a Thursday with Mrs Northcroft although this has still to be confirmed once the children are in full-time.

On Friday the children will usually have Assembly and Golden time.

Phonics – This week we will be practising the letters a and t, as well as consolidating s.  There will be sound homework in the H/S book and is a job to complete for Wednesday (a) and Friday (t).

Number – Counting and recognising numbers to 10.  Exploring the formation of 2 and 3.

Water Bottles and Tubs

image

We are going to be encouraging the children to take their water bottles into class each morning in order for them to have regular sips throughout the day.

Please can we ask that you put your child’s name on their bottle so it’s easy to identify. Also any tubs and packed lunch boxes should be named too.

Thank You
