Winter Trees

Our art work this week was winter trees. When Miss Travers showed us the beautiful art work other people had done we were super exited because there was so much colour and beauty. So when we finally got to make our own trees we started off just cutting the shape of the tree but we used black paper so it looked like a silhouette. First everyone got a big piece of black paper and drew a shape that was meant to be our tree and then we stared to add on branches to make it more and more real. Then everybody cut out their tree and cut little bits of black paper for smaller branches to make it more detailed. After the trees were finished we got an even bigger piece of white paper and got some little bits of tissue paper that were shaped like little squares that we placed on the paper and started to place the squares on top of the others but not fully overlapping only at the edges, corners and the sides. Once we had all covered the paper in colourful tissue paper we stuck on our tree and then added our little branches and then it was finished we all had very sticky fingers from the glue but it was all worth it.

Christmas Presents

Our class were trying out how to wrap a Christmas present. Miss Travers showed us what to do then we had a chance to try it out. The first thing we did was get a nice wrapping paper and get everything else that we needed. After we had done that the whole class tried to wrap their own Christmas present. Once we had wrapped our present we decorated them and put a label on it so people knew who it was for. We then got out our Big Writing jotters and wrote out our instructions. Miss Travers gave us a list of things our instructions had to include.  We wrote a list of what you needed and then steps of how to do it. Each of the steps had to start with a different word so it didn’t sound too repetitive.  A few days later Sophie, Jenny, Lara, Elle, Taylor and me had lots of fun opening them!

Christmas Ceilidh

On Monday 14th both p7 classes and p6 all got dressed up for a fun filled ceilidh. The ceilidh started at 7:00 and ended at 9:00. We all enjoyed dancing things like the Dashing White Sergeant and the Canadian Barn Dance. As well as that we also had a live band to play the music. Then we stopped for food and played some pop tunes while we ate. We were all allowed to take 5 things each and then if there were extras you were allowed to get seconds. If you didn’t want seconds you could dance with your pals while you waited for the band to finish their well-earned break. While the band were getting ready to play the second half of the evening, everyone got up and did dances like 5,6,7,8 and the Macarena. At the second half of the night we did Strip the Willow, The Flying Scotsman and some other group dances, even the teachers got involved with the dances. This was sadly the last Christmas ceilidh for the p7 pupils and I think I can speak for all of us… We wish it wasn’t our last and we would like to say thank you to everyone who organised the wonderful event!

The Dorian Choir Event

On Friday the 14th of December the Dorian Choir invited Cardross Primary School choir to sing at half time at their concert. The event took place in Helensburgh at the United Reform Church.  The songs that we sung were very touching and enjoyable. I had to sing a solo I was very nervous.  Mrs Davis and Mrs Ridland told us they were really proud and that all our hard work paid off. We all really enjoyed seeing the Dorian choir perform, they were amazing. I really liked the lady on the trumpet, she was very good. And ever since that we all feel very confident and proud of ourselves!

Hour of Code

Today we started some coding. We used an online website and we had to solve puzzles using code. First we tried the Star Wars version, then Minecraft and finally the Frozen version.

“At some parts it was quite easy, but other bits were hard. I tried different techniques if I got stuck.” Emma

“It was really fun and enjoyable but I thought it was quite frustrating at times but I kept on trying.” Sophie

“It’s definitely a trial and error game. The good thing is, if you make a mistake you just try again.” Sarah

“I thought it was fun because you can change the game to make it your way. You can change the score and change how people behave. I didn’t realise that programming was so easy, it went through it really well so we understood.” Euan

“My favourite part was at the end because you used everything you’d learned to create your own game. No-one was telling you what to do, you could choose.” Etienne

“I found it challenging but you could choose a different way to do things, you could choose a different path.” Sam

“I found it exciting. It’s a game where you can choose what to do so you have lots of freedom.” Callum

“I really like it because you could learn new problem solving skills and it taught you a lot without you realising it.” Kiera

“It talked you through everything. It started easy and got harder and harder.” Lara

“Its enjoyable while you are learning to code. There’s a lot of variety and there’s lots to do.” Matthew M

Ardroy Models

During October, we went to Ardroy so when we got back to school, we decided to create some models to send up to the instructors. I was in a group with Etienne and Lewis. We decided to make Jacob’s Ladder because it was our favourite activity. We made our model with all sorts of materials, at first it wasn’t stable so we had to use stuff to keep it up. Eventually we finished our model and we had to create a drawing and type something to explain to them why we made the model. I found the Ardroy models quite challenging but fun.

We later used an augmented reality app called Aurasma. Miss Travers filmed each group talking about the trip and we superimposed the videos over our models. The models have now been sent to Ardroy and anyone who uses the app will be able to watch our videos.

Bubblegum and Fluff

Today at 9am in the morning we met Miss Travers at the train station. While we were waiting for the train Miss Travers bought the tickets and finally the train arrived. I got on and sat next to Christina we chatted until the train stopped at Helensburgh. When we arrived it was pouring and freezing cold. We walked along the wet pavement then when we got to the front door of the church a lovely lady welcomed us and told us to sit at the front of the church. We saw Helen and some other people that were supporting Bubblegum and Fluff.

During the visit Helen and her friend got puppets and made up a funny story about a boy and a girl. The boy found old bubblegum under his bed and ate it. It had fluff and yucky stuff on it but he kept chewing it and eventually it had a yummy taste to it.
After that Helen asked for volunteers to dress up. I was chosen to become a gladiator and Christina was an old Jewish lady and James from the other P7 class was a leader. It was amazing and we had so much fun.

Last but not least my group was me, Erin, Euan, Lara, Matthew M and Sophie we drew on tiles and decorated them for Christmas. Then we sang a new but fun song it was an amazing experience I wish we could go again it was epic.

On a wet Tuesday morning p7a and p7b got the train into Helensburgh. When we got off the train we rushed to the church because it was pouring and our feet were all wet. We got in the church and took our coats off and we went in groups of 6. My group went with our leader called Emma. First we arranged the nativity story into the correct order and then we read it out. When we were finished we got to make our own Christmas pictures out of small tiles. I made a present for my sister. Then we acted out and listened to a few stories from the bible. I had an amazing fun time at Bubblegum and Fluff!
