DALINTOBER OXFAM SALE

Dalintober held its annual Oxfam Sale recently. Instead of ordering from the Oxfam catalogue we asked for the money to go directly to the people of the Philippenes. The whole school took part by bringing in their toys, games and books. Primary 5 organised the sale and some acted as stall keepers while others helped the customers by being personal shoppers.

Dalintober PS Allotment wins ACHA ‘Garden In Boom 2013’ Competition

Dalintober Primary School pupils and staff were delighted to hear that they had been awarded first prize in Argyll Community Housing Association’s ‘Garden In Bloom 2013’ competition. Members of the Mid Argyll & Kintyre Area Committee scored allotments independently and Dalintober’s allotment was judged the best. Members of the Eco-Group, staff and parent and partners have all helped to maintain the allotment, growing a wide range of fruit and vegetables which has been used in school meals and for ‘Green Days’.

‘Icons’ and ‘Idols’ at Dalintober PS

Parents and family members flocked in their hundreds for three sell-out performances of this year’s school show at Dalintober PS. As well as traditional Christmas items, from our instrumentalists and choir, the crowds were entertained by each class paying tribute to some icons and idols – a wide range from Elvis Presley to Katy Perry! The PTA held very successful raffles and between these and the show a massive £2400 was raised for school funds. Thank you to all – and a Happy Christmas and New Year from all at Dalintober PS!

Dalintober Primary Entertain the Elderly

Primary 7 pupils from Dalintober Primary spent two days on a Christmas Roadshow. Their objective was to entertain elderly men and women from the local hospital, care homes and sheltered accommodation.
They were appreciated by their audiences who thoroughly enjoyed their performances. Following each performance the pupils talked to all in attendance and wished them a Merry Christmas.

Big Book Bash at Dalintober

To celebrate Scottish Book Week Dalintober Primary 1 children held a Big Book Bash. The children decorated biscuits and served these to their parents and grandparents along with some juice. The parents and grandparents enjoyed reading the books and looking at the activities the children had been working on. The children voted “Jumblebum the Monster who loves mess!” as their favourite book.

Scottish Hydro Christmas Card Design Winner for Dalintober PS

The Scottish Hydro shop, Campbeltown recently held a Christmas Card design competition for Primary 1 pupils and Gregor’s design was chosen as the winning entry, judged by Miss Mary McMillan. As well as receiving his own prize, Gregor also won a new CD system for his class, and all entrants also received a small treat for their efforts. Thank you to Anne and the team at Scottish Hydro from Dalintober!

Dalintober PS Make ‘Guy’ for Community Bonfire.

Primary 6 pupils were very busy in the lead up to Guy Fawkes night when they were asked to make the Guy Fawkes effigy for the annual community bonfire and fireworks display which is organised by the Dalintober and Milknowe Tenants Association. The children took ‘Guy’ on a tour of the school before he was collected by members of the fire brigade and taken to be placed on top of the bonfire before the event on Tuesday 5th November.

Dalintober PS make ‘Penny Jars’ for local fundraisers

Primary 2 and Primary 5 pupils from Dalintober PS have been busy making ‘Penny Jars’ to be placed in local shops to support two important fundraising ventures in Campbeltown. The pupils created the jars, in conjunction with ‘Explore Campbeltown’ to encourage shoppers to give their loose change to funds being raised for Campbeltown Christmas Lights Group and CGS4Gambia.

Smoke Free Me

Castlehill’s P7s joined up with other local schools on Monday 28th Oct at Dalintober Primary to take part in the Smoke Free Me presentation performed by Raenbow Productions. The children have been learning about the effects of smoking recently and this was the culmination of their work. The pupils had a great time interacting with the drama group and highlighting the alarming, but true, facts they had discovered about the consequences of becoming a smoker.

Wind Towers Scotland (Ltd.) and Dalintober PS ‘Community at Heart’ Partnership

Wind Towers Scotland (Ltd.), a company based in Campbeltown, have been involved in a ‘Community at Heart’ programme which sees workforce members assisting organisations who have bid for their time to undertake maintenance projects etc. Dalintober PS placed a bid and was delighted to welcome the team this week. Younger members of the Pupil Council were particularly keen to make sure the visiting team were invited in for lunch, given the horrendous weather! Dalintober PS Assist First Minister in Housing Development Opening

Pupil members of the outgoing Pupil Council of Dalintober Primary School were delighted to be asked by Argyll Community Housing Association to assist Alex Salmond MSP, First Minister of Scotland at the opening of a new housing development in Campbeltown, Park Terrace. Pupils helped bury a time capsule on the site and were delighted to receive a signed copy of ‘The Gruffalo’ in Scots’ language from Mr Salmond.

Dalintober PS Links With Explore Campbeltown

Pupils from Dalintober PS have been working closely on enterprising projects with local organisation Explore Campbeltown. The organisation is a website which promotes local businesses and their products. Pupils have made posters which will go on display around the town and on the new ferry which links Campbeltown to Arran and Ardrossan. The next enterprise activity for Dalintober PS pupils is to decorate ‘Penny Jars’ to be placed in local shops to raise funds for Campbeltown Christmas Lights Group and CGS4Gambia. The school is delighted to be linked to this very worthwhile venture.

Dalintober Pre Five Unit held their Sports Day in the school gym on Wednesday 29th May. The children all enjoyed the day and here are our Pre School and Ante Pre School Champions.

Pirate Day’ at Dalintober Primary

A special ‘Pirate Themed Day’ for pupils in Pre-5, Primary 1, Primary 1/2 and Primary 2 of Dalintober Primary School was a huge success! This followed an Active-Learning based IDT which saw pupils using literacy, numeracy, social studies and expressive arts skills to explore the world of pirates. Pupils and staff enjoyed dressing up as pirates for the day, talking like pirates and participating in activities like ‘Walking The Plank!’ and ‘Pin The Patch On The Pirate’ – a great celebratory outcome of a fun learning topic!

Dalintober PS Pupil Council School Menu Focus Group

Pupils from Dalintober PS recently met with Christine Boyle, Food and Nutrition Officer, to give their feedback on school menus. The pupils really enjoyed their visit from Christine, who took time to explain the need for balance across the dishes. They discussed most and least popular meals and gave some possible new ideas for inclusion in future menus.

Monsteriffic’ Red Nose Day at Dalintober PS

Mrs Kean and Primary 3 organised a ‘Monsteriffic’ Red Nose Day at Dalintober PS. Pupils were invited to dress up and/or come to school with monster feet! Other activities during the day included baking, a colouring competition, an obstacle course and Head Teacher, Miss Armour, was kidnapped! A fantastic total of £454.76 was raised for Comic Relief.

Dalintober PS Police Station Escape!

Dalintober P3’s flee Police Station!
Primary 3 pupils of Dalintober PS recently visited Campbeltown Police Station as part of a topic looking at ‘Emergency Services’, although as you can see from the photo they managed to make a quick getaway! The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit and have written letters to Inspector Harper to thank him and his team for demonstrating many aspects of police work to the class.
