Champions Campbeltown Pupils Visit Dalintober PS

Campbeltown Pupils’ Manager Norman Thomson visited Dalintober Primary last week with two of his squad members, John McCallum and Stuart Crossan, to take part in a Q & A and coaching session with the school football players and referees. They also brought along the League Trophy they recently secured and their medals. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the visit and we look forward to welcoming them back for future coaching sessions. A big thank you from Dalintober!

P6 Cycling Success at Dalintober PS

P6 Cycling Proficiency success at Dalintober PS

All P6 pupils in Dalintober PS completed and passed their Cycling Proficiency theory test and practicals. The class and their teacher, Miss Brown, would like to thank June and Kay and all the volunteers and parent helpers who gave up their time to help with training.

Dalintober PS Pupils Encourage MOKRUNNERS

P2, P4 and P6 pupils from Dalintober PS designed posters to motivate and inspire participants in Campbeltown’s MOKRUN 10k route. MOKRUN – a 10k and half marathon – is an annual highlight in the town, and was voted the world’s number one event by ‘Running World’. All at Dalintober PS wish the competitors all the best in their endeavours, with a special mention for the staff members, parents and family members who are participating. Good Luck!

Dalintober PS Support ‘National Onesie Day’

Pupils and staff of Dalintober PS supported this year’s Sunday Mail/Daily Record ‘National Onesie Day’, raising a grand total of £217 for several charities. Pupils and staff were invited to wear their onesies, PJs or non-uniform for a £1 donation. Whilst it was lovely to relax in our onesies after Sports Day, it was rather warm on our sunniest day in Campbeltown! ☺

‘Sport Relief Mile’ and ‘Sport Your Trainers’ at Dalintober PS

Dalintober PS recently supported two ‘sporty’ events. P6 and P7 pupils completed a one mile run for ‘Sport Relief’ and all pupils donned their sports’ shoes for ‘Sport Your Trainers Day 2014’ for Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games – participating in a range of sports and activities. CGS Commonwealth lesson

Three pupils from Campbeltown Grammar School visited Dalintober Primary Five to teach them about the Commonwealth country they will be representing at a mini Commonwealth games in June. The class heard interesting facts about New Zealand and a quiz at the end showed that they had been taught well by their new, enthusiastic teachers.

‘Options’ Fridays at Dalintober Primary School

Dalintober Primary pupils are enjoying their new skills based programme, called ‘Options’, which has been running every Friday since January. Pupils have ‘opted in’ to one of four areas – Healthy Heroes (Health & Wellbeing), Eco Warriors (Sustainable Education), Techno Whizzes (Technologies) and Smarty Arties (Expressive Arts) – which represent the wide variety of interests and wider achievements of the pupils themselves. KILMARTIN MUSEUM AND DALINTOBER PRIMARY

Primary five at Dalintober Primary School worked with Kilmartin Museum on a very exciting bird project. First the children, accompanied by Julia Hamilton and Kate Moody form Kilmartin Museum, examined stuffed birds and then they walked round the harbour in Campbeltown to see the real thing. They also visited Campbeltown Museum to see where an exhibition of their work would be. Photographer Philip Price came to school to teach photography skills and these were used in the afternoon when the class visited Machrihanish. ‘Tasty Tuck Team’ Hit Dalintober PS

On Friday, the ‘Tasty Tuck Team’, aka Dalintober Primary’s Pupil Council members, launched a new initiative to encourage pupils to bring in healthy snacks for playtimes. They sold some tasty morsels – fruit, pitta breads and crackers – as suggestions and these ‘tasters’ went down a treat with their fellow pupils. Following the current project’s run, they hope that parents and pupils will continue to promote the healthy eating message.

Dalintober PS Pupils Thank Community

Pupils of Dalintober PS have written an open letter to ‘The Campbeltown Courier’ and personally delivered letters to local shopkeepers thanking them for supporting a fundraising activity for Campbeltown Christmas Lights Group. ‘Penny Jars’, designed by the pupils, were on display in local shops and shoppers were encouraged to throw any loose change in to the jars. In only two weeks a grand total of £512.61 was raised. The pupils will be putting the jars back in to shops following the February break in the build-up to this year’s ‘Switch-on’.

MINI COMMONWEALTH GAMES AT DALINTOBER PRIMARY SCHOOL

Everyone in Dalintober Primary’s P7 class had a super time during their Mini Commonwealth Games which were held in school last week. The Games marked the end of an Interdisciplinary Task all about The Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Games.
A variety of activities had been enjoyed by the class leading up to The Dalintober Games, including compiling factfiles about some Commonwealth countries, making clay tiles to advertise the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and using a Diamond Nine to make group decisions about which events were most important. Dalintober Primary School; Mary Queen of Scots topic

Dalintober Primary 6 pupils treated their parents and relatives to a Scottish themed concert to celebrate the end of their Mary Queen of Scots interdisciplinary topic. The pupils were fully responsible for the planning and organising of the event. The guests were treated to a variety of musical performances which included solos and duets from brass instrumentalists, drummers, a chanter player and a violinist. The concert ended with the class singing two Scottish favourites, ‘Will Ye Go Lassie Go’ and ‘Caledonia’.

Dalintober Infants Celebrate Burns

Children in Primary 1 and 2 at Dalintober Primary held a Burns morning in school. They came to school wearing something tartan and kicked off the morning with a Scottish dance. All the children took it in turns to recite a Scottish poem to a large audience. After the recital the children enjoyed a wee dram of Irn Bru and some delicious shortbread. Both children and staff thoroughly enjoyed their morning!
