Excitement ran high on Thursday 24 May when a number of local schools put forward a team to play for the local ‘Challenge Cup’ with the P6 & P7 boys of St. Joseph’s Primary School bringing home the trophy. The final game was a 2-1 win for the team with Robbie Livingston setting up the school to claim victory with the first of 2 goals. However, the winning goal came in the last few minutes of the game when Ben Malone placed the ball firmly in the back of the net.
The children had been escorted to the field by their coach at school, Miss Trainer. An avid football fan herself, she spends time after school and at lunch times coaching the team….and it has all paid off!
Miss Trainer and Mrs Mclean returned to school after the match and were met by hoots of delight from the staff. The next day Ms Collins, Head Teacher, sent the boys around all the classes so that the whole school family of St. Joseph’s could enjoy the boys’ victory. A fine day was had by all – well done St. Joseph’s Football Team!
A fantastic result! Well done St Joseph’s and well done to all who took part.
