PRIMARY TEAM CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012 – 2013

Rockfield Primary School entered two teams, a P7 and under and a P5 and under, into the Scottish Primary Team Chess Chamionship, held this year in the Ballerup Hall, East Kilbride on Sunday 19th May.
This competition involves most of the leading chess playing schools in Scotland with teams coming from all over the country. Many of these schools have a very long tradition of playing chess.

Both Rockfield teams acquitted themselves very well in their respective age group competitions and, going into the last round, both teams were in contention for at least a top three finish. There was mixed fortunes in the last round and the P5 team were just nudged out of the placings. The P7 team, however, won their last round to put them into a ‘five minute blitz’ play off for the second place. This involves playing against your opponent with each player having only five minutes on their clock instead of the twenty-five played in each round previously. Rockfield are not known for their lightning fast play but the team won their play off three to one and finished as the runners-up in their competition and the second best team in Scotland.

The behaviour of all of the Rockfield pupils was exemplary throughout the day and they were a credit to themselves, their parents and to the school.

  1. Congratulations to all. It’s so good to see that the club is flourishing and doing so well in the Scottish chess scene. 🙂
