Ulva Primary School Burns Lunch

On Friday all of our Mums and Dads came to the school for our Burns Lunch. Aaron and Sorley were the chairmen and they welcomed everyone.
We made tartan banners for the ceiling and we had tartan bunting. We all wore tartan kilts and checked shirts. We set the tables with tartan mats and tartan name tags and we planned where everyone was going to sit. Everyone said the Selkirk Grace before we ate the Cock a leekie soup. It was delicious.

Next Sam helped to pipe in the haggis and Mrs Waller had an enormous, sharp knife and said an address to the haggis. Jane, one of our Mums, had cooked vegetarian haggis as well as traditional haggis, and also sausages for people who didn’t like haggis. The neeps and tatties were yummy as well.
Mrs Whyte did the Immortal Memory and then we had a quiz about Rabbie Burns in family teams. Everyone did very well.
We sang Burns songs and recited Burns poems and even some riddles. Some Mums and Dads joined in with their own poems and songs. It was fantastic.

After our break we played ‘A 100 Pipers’ on our violins and cellos and then we did a demonstration of Highland dancing. We Stripped the Willow, did the Canadian Barn Dance and taught our Mums and Dads how to do the Ulva dance, a dance that we had created ourselves.
We all deserved our hot chocolate and shortbread, before we sang Auld Lang Syne and headed home. Everyone had lots of fun.
