The children in P5-7 at Kilmartin P.S. are beginning to enjoy the benefits of running a daily mile first thing every morning. The class heads out with their teacher and carry out a few warm-up stretches before heading along the Coach Road that runs from the school to the village.
Jack, P.5, says, ‘I have challenged myself to move my arms and legs up and down fast when I am jogging. Becuase I am exercising, my stamina, fitness and perseverance are all improving. I have learned that if I keep going and stick with my group, I will get better at jogging.’ Angus says, ‘We use a counter in each group to see how many steps we take.’
The class teacher, Miss Carter, says that the children are more energized on their return to class and can see the children’s fitness and stamina levels improve each week.
I think that this is a great iniative and should be encouraged in all schools. Well done Kilmartin!
Great idea, sure it sets them up for the day. Keep it up!
