Sizzling Summer Spectacular to end school year at DGS

Over 180 S6 pupils, staff and their families enjoyed a samba inspired BBQ last Thursday evening (26 June) to mark the end of a successful school year.

The school yard was transformed into the ‘Copacabana Courtyard’ – complete with inflatable palm trees – as pupils and staff enjoyed a World Cup themed afternoon that included a bbq, beach volleyball, limbo dancing, football target challenge and trampoline.

Then it was into the school forum to watch the World Cup match of the day, USA v Germany. Two special guest commentators joined the fun – ‘Roberto fae Rio’ and ‘Samba Steve’ – and both did a fabulous job to creative a carnival atmosphere. Spectators selected their team for the afternoon and participated in ‘National Anthem Karaoke’. Activity in the forum was certainly livelier than the action on the pitch, with Mexican waves and inflatable footballs making regular appearances.

All agreed – it was Rio good fun!

Head Teacher David Mitchell commented:

“I would like to thank the pupils and staff who worked hard to plan this enjoyable school event. The summer spectacular was a fitting end to what has been a highly successful and rewarding school year. I wish all pupils, staff and school partners a relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday and I look forward to building on the significant progress we have made next academic year”.
